Going to be near impossible to enforce, right? Instead of being so obvious, Kiffen will send in a 2nd or 3rd teamer and be "injured" and taken off the field on a stretcher. The penalty must be more severe and quicker than what is proposed.

If its allowed per the NCAA rules, a coach should be able to do it.
Yes its a weak move. Yes its annoying. But if Sankey wants it out of the game, then have the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel change the 17ing rules.

Players will be instructed to stay on the ground after a big play. That’s typically when fast tempo happens.

Apparently, Sankey has at least an elementary understanding of what leadership is. You’d run and tell your boss and then shrug your shoulders. At least you’re honest!

17 off with trying to apply my comment back to me.

- NCAA rules govern NCAA games.
- If Sankey wants NCAA rules to change, he should go to the NCAA and have the rules changed.
- Its 17ing stupid to penalize SEC programs/coaches for following NCAA rules in a game.
- Its 17ing stupid to not let SEC programs play by the rules while their opponents(non-conference) are able to play be the rules.

If Sankey wants to lead, then he can work to get others behind him and push for the NCAA to change the rules. Thats leadership.

I like it. Not sure how effective it will be and no doubt it only matters in conference games and he won't apply it otherwise. And of course this is noticed by the NCAA and as usual they will act now that the SEC has acted. Pretty sure it's mostly an OM issue anyway.

I’ve never really believed you were a troll until this post…. I think you went too far trying to take the opinion that would definitely be against the majority of the board.

In the extreme off chance you were being serious, what sankey did was for the sec it does not impact anyone else, so why would he take this to the rules oversight panel? Guarantee others will follow his lead here, assuming other conferences are having this issue. In 2022, the ncaa did create a position to review fake injuries, if requested. The punishment, assuming there would be any, was left to each conference.

How I know you didn’t read the memo. It clearly refers to the NCAA rules & says the NCAA will determine if a fake injury occurred. That said, I’ll believe anything is done when I see it.

I said I dislike the fake injuries. That can't possibly be the opposite view of the board.

Are you saying I need to agree with the SEC Commish just because others do? SPS has lived on disliking what the SEC has said/done/implemented outside of the NCAA...yet I am a troll because I happen to take that position here?

Brilliant.**

I don't know who/what the National Coordinator for Officiating is, so I didn't really comment based on that release.
The release reiterares that injured players are given the benefit of the doubt...but fake injuries will be subjectively determined and penalized.

Yeah- I read it again and I don't change my opinions there- it's confusing as 17 and if Sankey wants real change then the rules have to change.
^ that means benefit of the doubt doesn't exist moving forward and is immediately ejected from the game or something like that.

You’re such a butthurtt lil biitch sometimes.

Your progressive ire should be shifted to the childish coaches and programs that promote this garbage. To me, it’s akin to falsely screaming “rape!” which not only eats up time and resources to respond to, but also creates a stigma where people initially doubt any injury until it’s confirmed. It’s a horrible and immoral thing to do in a sport where injuries can be serious or fatal.

It’s ridiculous that a commissioner has to issue a royal edict about something this dishonest and childish, much less the need for a toothless bureaucracy to issue rules to enforce something difficult to prove.

Handling this in-house by Sankey is the right move. And your solution is MORE oversight from NCAA??

No, you’re being a troll because you took a stance that you knew was ridiculous. What Sankey did was 100% within his authority and what the ncaa wants conferences to do, based on what they passed in 2022. Everyone else is glad something is being done, even if it may not be perfect.

Why would you rather the fake injuries continue?

There is no change to any freaking rule.
There is no rule about fake injuries.
In a sane world, who would see the need to create a rule about faking injuries?
What world do you live in?

It’s called creating more rules.
And since you see that as the way to fix this problem and you enjoy lecturing us simpletons, please, elaborate.

How would these rules read, and how would punishment be handed out in real time?

Will there x-ray, and MRI machines on the sideline? Are there degrees of seriousness or intent, like 2nd degree premeditated flopping on defense, or 1st degree aggravated time stoppage on offense, with malice?

Since you like writing arrogant dissertations, please enlighten us further. I’ll hang up and listen.

I don't want fake injuries to continue. I want there to be swift and severe penalty for it that is written into the rules.

I have said this multiple times over the last couple years.

Agree. As I said earlier, I’ll believe this will do anything about it when I see it. The real answer is to make it an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. That would stop it cold.

Um...it's subjective based on Sankey's release, so it can be subjective later too.
Like, if you think Sankey's release is good policy, then just formalizing a penalty that refs call on the field in real time shouldn't be an issue.

You are really hung up in the idea that creating more rules is bad or odd or not how sports should be played.
Get over it- rules have changed how most major sports are played over the last 10 years.
Examples...
- pitch clock in baseball.
- targeting and tackling penalties in football.
-stepback crossover in basketball.

If refs think a player is faking injury, have a rule that allows refs to penalize em in the moment.
It's wild to me that this seems extreme to anyone here.

Calm down. In response to me saying I think Sankey should push to have the NCAA rules changed, you ranted about...
- my 'progressive ire'.
- equated a football player faking an injury with someone claiming to have been raped.
- called a legal move in the sport 'immoral'.
- how a bureaucracy that exists to set rules apparently shouldn't set a rule to address this and a conference commissioner should instead set the rule by decree.
- posted some unhinged political meme to try and prove...something, since it's me you are responding to.

Buddy- step back and realize this is just a discussion. 17 man, ease up.
And while you are breathing in thru your nose and out thru your mouth, take a moment to accept the reality that the NCAA sets rules and it isn't some overreach for the NCAA to address this issue with a rule change.

I agree with your position, but Sankey is following the NCAA rules that were set up 2 years ago.

The NCAA met in 2022 to address fake injuries, but all they could come up with was having the offended school submit video to the National Coordinstor of Football Officiating, and let the coordinator report back to the accused school and the conference. It was left up to the conferences to decide what to do with that information.

Predictably, the National Coordinator is not comfortable stating with any certainty whether a player faked an injury.

Sankey is stepping up and saying if the National Coordinator uses strong enough language in his assessment, then Sankey will treat the incident as a fake injury and fine the coach. The impetus will then be on the offending school to prove the injury is real.

Other than the fact this should have been done 2 years ago, I don't have a problem it at all. Not sure what affect it will have on non conference games.

I'm guessing the NCAA will need to address the situation again. It's not as easy as some of you think. You do not want to discourage truly injured players from seeking a stoppage of play.

And cramps are weird, in that they can totally debilitate a person in a second, then just as quickly disappear.

But we need fairness in the games, too.
