I am glad Finn transferred. He was really good. We don't have to face him. They won 11 games last season. He was a big part of it.
Yeah we might’ve caught a break. Toledo is a one of those tough non-cons that you get no credit for beating and destroyed if you lose. Just win baby.
Yeah. Biggest surprise here is they were keeping up the facade there was ever a competition.
No QB is going to leave a starting position at one FBS school to go to another and sit the bench. Even though coaches may say its a legit competition after a transfer like Finn comes in, it's not.
This is the least shocking thing I’ve seen on the interwebs in a very, very long time.
Just more proof how difficult it is to really evaluate Texas HS QBs. HS coaches out here live, think, and breathe a 7-on-7 mentality where they don't usually play against powerful front sevens, so that even "mobile" QBs aren't really evaluated against collegiate competition on defense.
Greg McElroy once said on his show that blue chip Texas HS QBs (and he was one) are hard to evaluate because they are already so developed by the time they hit college, there's not a lot of room for growth.
It's like a kid who hits puberty early and dominates Jr High football only to be lost in the shuffle once everyone catches up to him in high school.

But yeah I agree, most normal thinking persons wouldn't leave a starting spot unless another was guaranteed.
They are definitely overcoached, so you have to be careful. But a kid who hits a growth spurt and develops further after high school, well, I don't see why over-coaching would hurt him.
The issue with TX is that back in the day, it was a bigger deal than it is now. Now....pretty much everywhere overcoaches, except maybe the extreme rural South.
Sort of like a travel baller. 10 years ago many kids didn't pay and got left behind, so you could still find them elsewhere. Fast forward today, those same studs are being subsidized in the travel system and getting the same coaching the little johnnies were a decade ago.
SMU has really thrown a skunk in the room of the SMU/TCU/Baylor religious schools in Texas. SMU is going to another level and leaving the other 2 WAYYY behind. Add to that having now Texas and A&M in the SEC, and you can read the tea leaves.
That might be the case right now, but if the ACC implodes, SMU might finally end up back in the Big 12.
