Say what you will about Rattler: dude fought and persevered

He had a lackluster start to the season before settling into a game manager type player. After ugly losses to Mizzou and UF, and with our offense in shambles 3 weeks ago, he was totally written off. Done.

But he showed up last week and absolutely balled out. Came out today and wasn’t nearly as sharp. Made a couple dumb throws that cost us big time. But he hung with it and kept fighting and made some big time throws, including his longest and second longest completions of his career.

Says a lot about him that with all the noise about him being a bust, he responded by delivering our best back-to back weeks in our program’s history.

He’s most likely gone but another year with him at QB would be awesome.
Rattler to Wells is a thing of beauty. They really seemed to get in sync down the stretch.

If Rattler thought he could play a whole season like he played the last 2 games, it would be in his best interest to come back. He’s a late-round pick right now. Could really boost his stock by coming back another year. IF he could play like he has the last 2 games.

The arm is not the question but the head is.

“He’s not a 1st-round pick. He’s not a Day 2 pick,” an NFL scout told me Saturday afternoon after the Gamecocks’ win.
So if you’re not selected in the first 3 rounds of the draft, why come out?
“He can come out, and he’ll get picked in the 6th or 7th round and maybe he can make a team,” the scout said. “Or he goes back and tries to work his way back.”

When he is good, he is great. When he is bad, he is really bad.

But lately, there's been a lot more good than bad. I'd love to have him back for another year.

And his head was an issue long before he came here. Kudos to Satt and his staff for bringing back someone that others had given up on. If we keep our staff and Rattler returns, next year could be even better.

Look, he needs another year. He really does. He needs to develop better situational awareness before he puts himself out there.

He really does not need to go pro. But money and simply the opportunity has persuaded a lot of young men to take the leap.

Shane’s biggest recruiting challenge will be getting him to stay. But, I think he goes pro. He has all the tools. His problem early was between his ears, no confidence.

You are 100% correct. If he goes this year, he could very well go undrafted. (I wouldn't take him)
If he stays and even just has "decent/solid" year next year with shown improvement in decision making and taking off and running skills alone....he gets drafted in first 3 rounds as a no brainer.

On the one hand, I want him to leave. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind seeing him come back. But for the sole sake of Rattler and his own future, he needs to come back and develop more.

His recruiting pitch needs to be: if you go pro this year, you're probably a late round pick. if you come back and play a whole season like the last 2 games, you're a day one pick.

It's really all gonna come down to what Rattler thinks about his ability. If he thinks he can play a whole season as well as the last 2 games, he'll be back. If he think he's maxed out his ability in college, he'll go pro.

I think a good many authoritative people will be telling him that.

Glad the early pick didn't get in his head. Decision making has greatly improved.
