All Byrne did, even before officially taking over as AD, is make one of the best hires in the SEC in any sport in years. It's not quite as big as Alabama hiring Nick Saban, but it's in the ballpark
Take his coaching resume - which also includes four years as the head coach at baseball factory Northwestern (La.) State and two years as a Florida assistant - add his playing days at Mississippi State, and Byrne would've been negligent not to go after him like a bulldog after a T-bone.

</p>
The new AD hit a home run with his first hire, and Polk hit him over the head with a metal bat.

Its a great hire. It is a natural progression for a coach like Cohen. It is nothing close to a Saban hire - the kind that rocks the world, raises stakes for programs nationally, prices smaller schools out of competing, questionable coaching/recruiting ethics and all that.

No, it's not. Cohen will be much more successful at State than $aban will be at Alabama. Tubberville will run him out of the State.
