by any network and I bet CBS has a deal with Navy. Also, it won't interfere with the SEC CBS timeslot.

And MSU is only listed as a "one out of three" possibility once this season? It would seem that a CBS contract didn't do much for State.

Thanks, LT.

the Raycom game. Im surprised the SEC contract with CBS allows CBS to do this.

You really think the SEC should have veto power on what CBS shows when it's not showing an SEC game? No network would ever agree to anything like that. We sure don't stop ESPN from televising college football during the Raycom game.

and Raycom is not shown on CBS stations exclusively. With that being said, one would have to think WJTV pays to have Raycom games. If WLBT wanted it, they could.

the SEC has a lot of leverage. CBS does not. The SEC is pretty much all it shows. So I would think the conference would have the bargaining power to request that. Comparing it to ESPN is apples and oranges.

I just said I was surprised. Damn, you fly off the handle easily.

I was just surprised that the SEC didn't get CBS to refrain from showing games when another contractual partner is showing games. Its along the same lines of not allowing M2M to show live games whenever an SEC contractual partner is showing a game. You want people watching the SEC game that is provided by the contract to the extent you can.

we'll have a good shot of getting the UT, Bammer or Arky games on CBS.

But no, the SEC won't have much, if any, bargainng power over what CBS shows before or after the SEC game. And really, Notre Dame-Navy wouldn't have much effect on the Raycom ratings anyway. Most SEC football fans would rather see a mid-level SEC game than Notre Dame-Navy anyway.

I believe that CBS has it in their contract to do at least one, maybe 2 SEC double headers per year, and I'm pretty sure that JP/LF/Raycom usually doesn't do a broadcast that week or weeks.

but I doubt it. I don't understand how the SEC could dictate what CBS would show in a time slot that is not @ 2:30.

but obviously they didn't, and obviously if CBS is going to pay that much money they will get to do what they want. It just struck me as odd at first.

the local affiliate will show the raycom game, and the cbs game will be shown on a local cable channel. the local affiliate is probably bound by its contract with raycom, because they pay for those rights themselves. cbs probably has some system in place to encourage the local channels to show the cbs national game, but in the event that they choose not to, provide alternatives (example - csi shown at 1 am, because the affiliate showed the sec basketball game at 7).

this is probably a moot point, because that weekend is probably one of the couple of weekends when raycom doesn't have a game.

They never plan that far ahead...
CBS waits to see which game will be the better matchup then picks, then ESPN, then Raycom...

....the coonasses aren't nearly as drunk and abusive, and you only have to spend about eight hours total in the state of Louisiana.

.......had a great standing relationship with a network that absolutely under no circumstances gives a flying **** about MSU. CBS: To hell with what the contract says.

when it's at Navy. I know they did two years ago, I watched it in Houston before going to the Stallion's wedding.

would have televised MSU games over the past 7 seasons. And even now, when we're coming off a winning season, our offense is such a yawner they wouldn't want to touch it. I know we all loved the Liberty Bowl, but it had to be a ratings disaster for ESPN. There's just not much demand among the casual football fan for a thrilling 10-3 game unless it involves marquee teams or is for some kind of championship.
