We've heard the rumors for weeks, but today the addition to Scott Field was made official. The Bulldog will have one of the largest HD scoreboards in the country. Go inside for the details, including renderings you will not find anywhere else.Full Story (FREE)

Capturion got the bid for the OM board, but somehow they ended up losing it when it was found out that the Capturion board isn't really true HD when compared to a Daktronics brand LED board. Maybe they spec'd us a different type board, but if it really is a lesser quality board than Daktronics, then this could be Byrne's first episode of doing something the "MSU way" that we're all used to

" When completed, the new board will measure 152 feet wide by 135 feet, 6 inches tall, with a main HD screen 111 feet wide by 47 feet high. It will be the largest true high definition board in the Southeastern Conference. The board will also contain two vertical HD displays and one horizontal scoreboard display."

Wow.. sometimes I just can't comprehend what has happened around state over the past year.

Actually, Capturion never got the bid. They were in the middle of analyzing the bids when they decided to have it re-bid. Capturion came in on the original bid at about $5.2M. Dak came in at about $7.5. Obviously they were selling different products to us, so it was re-bid, and Dak got the bid, as we essentially forced Capturion to bid the same quality of product.

I'm just curious as to whether or not there was a bid process involved, or if Byrne just simply called up Capturion and asked them to do it.

If it was bid out, I'm curious as to how it never came out before this. Ours was discussed throughout the entire process. This is really the first time anything has been mentioned other than a few times where people said they heard rumors that you were going to be getting a new board at some point.

If so, Byrne holding out to see what y'all would do first was sneaky, low down, dirty, and I love it. I will enjoy it while I can, because about 11.4 seconds after we finish ours, somebody else will do one 2 square feet bigger.

You're probably right. Usually you get to be the biggest in things like this for a season at most.

And yes, it's bigger I believe.

I wouldn't say it was sneaky though. We already had our board planned and in the bid process before Byrne was even hired. I'm pretty sure he had to scratch your contract with Telesouth in order to make this be able to happen this year, as I believe your Telesouth contract was going to add a new board for fall 2009. So, essentially, he couldn't have done anything until he had the new contract signed with a new company. I don't think it was a case of waiting on our announcement.

I saw that. That's what makes it possible. If you were still with Telesouth, you'd have to wait until next fall. It makes me wonder if Byrne's decision to switch had something to do with wanting to get a new board this season.

Every time I hear and OM or MSU fan refer to telesouth, it's always in the negative. I can't remember the last time someone said something positive about that company.

It is nice to have one (USM's came on line last year) with great picture and sound quality. The downside is that it seemed to be used as a commercial board first, replay second, out of town scores third, other games highlights never. And there always seemed to be a small section that didn't work or wasn't the same quality as the rest of the board.
