Scott Frost could win 50 straight games at NE and still not pass BP in number of wins.

Pelini's worst season was 9-4. He won 10 games 3 times.

While true, that doesn't mean that Pelini is better than Frost.

The entire program has regressed since Osborne left & each coach before Frost had a better situation to work with.

Most of the regression has happened since Frost was named coach. Coaches since Osborne:
Solich - 58-19 (33-15)
Callahan - 27-22 (15-17)
Pelini - 67-27 (38-17)
Riley - 19-19 (12-14)
Frost - 15-30 (10-26)

I think it's pretty safe to say Pelini was a hell of a lot better coach than Frost is.

Might be a good landing spot for Danny Boy Merlinz. He'll find a good QB and will beef up the run game and defense most likely. And we all know he can develop. But damn what a fall from grace that they are having to employ Mississippi State type strategies to just have a winning record.

Frost needs to be where he can get more speed on the field. That's likely never going to be the case at Nebraska except for maybe a good QB or TB once in a while.

As one who has lots of Husker friends….

They’d agree with patdog. And Osborne hired Riley and certainly signed off on Frost

A program may regress when it goes from perennial top few to perennial top 15, but that doesnt mean its the same regression as if its barely a top50 program. They have barely been a top50 program for 7 years now, all since Pelini was sent packing(after having a 9-4 record and being ranked for almost the entire season in '14).

Not that anyone could do any better, but Danny Boy could never win more than 8 games at Nebraska. TOPS.
He should still take the money and run when they run him off. That looney fan base believes they should be in the playoffs, If not every year, every other year. That was the thought when they got Frost.

I bet their expectations have been reset a little now. Averaging 7 regular season wins (in a normal 12-game year) with a shot at 10 once in a while seems like their ceiling (just like us). And Danny would likely get them to 10 once a decade or so.

They fired two successful coaches (Solich and Pelini) to hire Bill Callahan and Mike Riley. Wow

Of course, Pelini's personality and manners didnt help him.

You have to recruit kids to Nebraska. There are no Chris Jones or Benardik McKinneys hiding in Nebraska.

Yeah they got in their heads that they should be a big 10 power house and be in the champ game every year. Things have changed. They had it pretty good with Pelini

they didn't regress, college football left them behind. They stop getting the 4 star walk-on's. Offenses and recruiting changed. They were late to the game. Plus they change conference.

On the one hand, they make poor decisions. On the other hand, every other hire is a pretty good hire so the next coach should get them back to 8-9 wins per year. **

Wow. It is a dismal situation in the state of Nebraska. According to Pro Football Reference, there were 12 players from the state of NE on NFL rosters in 2021. MS had 50.

10 3-stars or better in NE per 247. Whereas MS has 31 (but also 2 schools to split).

They need to get into the JUCO pipeline like K-State. I don't even know if that can work anymore since they don't have a direct link to Kansas or Texas anymore, being in the B1G.

That just seemed like a bad decision to me. Yes they got a bunch of money now. But they were as guilty as Texas of destroying the Big 12. That could have been a very viable conference for a long time. Most of the TX talent would have stayed in that conference.

Would have been a lot better for college football (and other sports) to turn the clock back about 20 years to before the ACC destroyed the Big East.

If they go juco, their best bet would be the Iowa schools.

Iowa Western is just across the Missouri in Council Bluffs. They won a juco title 10 years ago and played for titles against New Mexico Military last year and East Mississippi in '14.

They should have never abandoned the triple option after Osborne and then firing Solich after going 9-3. They wanted to be cool like everyone else and run a pro style offense. That worked about as well as Croom and JoMo did for us.

I don't know - career coaching records can hide a lot. If you look at Sagarin ratings (I'm a fan), it looks like Pelini was a sinking ship, but Frost has stopped the bleeding. Here's a plot of that:

I think this chart is upside down. The higher rankings are at the bottom and the lower rankings are at the top.

To quote Bill Parcells, “You are what your record says you are.”

That quote works for the NFL where you make the playoffs solely on your record and everyone has an approximately equal schedule, but it's incredibly false in college football.
