over his career Sean's one of his best skills has been his running. it seems like he has been running less and not taking advantage of opportunities to convert 3rd downs by running.

Allar. We’ll have him absolutely turrible by the Blue-White Game.
The experts are saying there isn't much of a drop off from Allar to Pribula and that's why the Canadian is transferring. Normally you would think having 2 really good QB would be a good thing. Can't wait to read the 2023 game threads. Beau knows...

That's a valid point. I wonder if Sean was playing with a leg injury this year?

For this OP and this OP only, I tend to agree. From 2019 to Iowa 2021 (26 games*) Clifford ran the ball 256 times for an avg of 9.85 attempts a game with 12 games of double digit carries.

From post Iowa 2021 thru Senior Day 2022 (18 games**) he ran 114 times for an avg of 6.33 attempts a game with only 2 games of double digit carries (none in 2022).

Was this by design? trying to keep him from further injury, being gun shy for fear of injury, I don't know. But he did run less and defenses knew this and didn't have to prepare for it and could key on the RB's. It took away a part of the game plan.

FTR I am a huge fan of Clifford. IMHO he is a kid who gave it his all with the talent/skills he possessed, and didn't deserve the BullShizz and booing from the fans he received.

* I did not include the Iowa 2021 game where he had only 3 rushing attempts before leaving the game with the injury.

** I did not include Rutgers 2021 game where he only had 2 rushing attempts before leaving with flu symptoms. If included those 2 games would have his avg to 5.95 attempts per game.

I think that he's had a lingering injury, even injuries, that has compromised his ability to run and discouraged him from running. He clearly does not have the straight line speed he once had. He was never shifty and elusive, but he had decent straight line speed at one time. If I remember correctly, his 40 time was comparable to Trace McSorley's.

Perhaps he followed the advice of many here who made ad nauseum posts about the QB's running too much.

Seriously, he does wear a knee brace and I don't think Mike Yurcich wants him to use his legs like the Moorhead and Rahne days. He still has good escape ability.

Sean's ability to run and convert a 3rd down or buy some time has been a huge asset for him. Your point re his straight line speed is interesting. He clearly surprised Michigan with the long run, and I thought he was going to score. One of his best assets seems like it was just not there for him. agree defenses seemed to know it, and some of his run TDs this year were almost untouched as DEF not playing him to run.
