SEC baseball coaches don't think much of our team.

I'll go way out on a limb and say we're going to be better, but I won't go as far as to say good because there's just no reason to think the pitchers in a few months can all of a sudden be SEC quality

Can't say I disagree with them. Although to do think I'd pick us over Mississippi.

2024 Baseball Preseason Poll, All-SEC Team announced (secsports.com)
Id probably pick us over Ole Miss and Alabama. I admittedly havent looked very much into the other teams. But i think Ole Miss is in a situation like ours is plus finished rock bottom last season, and Alabama lost a lot in the transfer portal.

Think LSU and Arkansas are probably the class of the West. Can see why Texas Am and Auburn have people voting for them as well. But think after the top 2.. its a mixed bag of what could come out of it.

Glad we are in the West. East looks loaded

Agree. I think Mississippi is in even worse condition than we are. I don't think we finish last. But we won't be far from it.

1 player on the 1st and 2nd team all-sec teams.

I've said we lack the talent other schools have. Seems like the coaches agree with that assessment.
Hines should be somewhere. He and Jordan are as good a 1-2 punch as anyone else

We may not be any good again but I wouldn't go by a coaches poll. A lot of the coaches themselves don't even vote and just have their SID do it for them. Also, their voting is heavily influenced by recent performance. And based on our recent performance why would anyone think we should do well? Most of us don't even think we are going to do well.

Apparently not. They're good. But there's a lot of good players in the SEC.

Not really. Go compare the numbers.

As someone else said. They are good. But others are better.
The point is he is an all sec caliber player so having just Jordan doesn’t really illustrate what kind of lineup we have. And some
Think Chance is our best hitter. Now pitching is another story. This team will probably be just good enough to keep Lems job which is less than ideal.

You're thinking of the old UPI coaches poll in football. I would be surprised if the coaches aren't actually voting in the SEC preseason poll.

I get your point. But im sure there are other teams that have players that "just missed" being on it as well.

the hines/jordan duo is nice. But as i've stated before. half the league will have a duo similar, and some will have a duo better.

Meaning that Hines/Jordan combo puts us more like even at best with half the league... not above it.. so i wouldnt say we have an advantage there.

It happens all the time. We're talking 18-22 year olds, many of them (not Will Rogers) change a good bit in a year. Plus, other teams' guys graduate or get drafted. College athletics is a constant churn, so I have no idea why so many don't expect young teams to get better. That said......

This team will probably be just good enough to keep Lems job which is less than ideal.
No, it will suck, like you originally said. We really need to find out if Lemonis is an elite coach/recruiter or just another guy who made some good decisions in a few years when he had some talent. We don't need to go 3-4 years marred in mediocrity like Polk did, that kills the fanbase. Either suck and get a new coach or win big. Obviously we can't always control the outcome but we are talking ideals here.

Rosebowl keeps saying that we absolutely NEED Lemonis to work out. I agree that would be the best, but until he wins big again it's obvious our fanbase is checked out on him. So being average is just going to create a bad culture and a bunch of grumbling fans.

Maybe because this one has gotten worse instead of better the last 2 seasons?

We sucked enough the last 2 to get a new coach, if we are even just mediocre this season he's got to go. No way we "win big"

2022 was an upper class team that got hit by injuries. 2023 was a truly young team. That team has now grown up some (hopefully). I mean I’m not gonna sit here and argue this vehemently but I’m just providing the other viewpoint.

And as far as sucking, we were like a 5-7 football team in 2022, and a 6-6 minor bowl team in 2023. I don’t think you fire a national title winning coach over that. It’s not like we were 3-9 like a Chizik.

This is incredibly pathetic!
I know we haven’t played a game in 2024 yet but for Mississippi State University to be picked dead 17-ing last in baseball is just unacceptable.
I know we’ve had some off years since I began following State baseball which, I’m going to say was about 1978 or so but damn.
We just won a National Championship in 2021 which at this point seems in the far distant past and this - this is now what we’ve been regulated to ?!?!
We may be able to turn it around this year and I really hope like hell we do and that we are decent enough to host a Regional, but if we don’t, then our next goal should be to win a Regional, wherever that may be and make it to the Supers or Chris Lemonis needs to be escorted out immediately!
Either host our own Regional or win a Regional on the road.
That’s it. That’s the minimum for Lemonis to stay in my opinion.
Anything else and we need to start over because we are at the bottom guys.
Can’t get much lower at this point - and it’s been a steady ride to the bottom since February of 2022.
I think we’ll find out soon enough in OOC play to know if we have any chance at all of accomplishing one of those two goals.

Would disagree here. No way last year’s baseball season equates to a 6-6 football season. We were next to last in the SEC and had the worst pitching season in school history.

We were terrible last year and terrible the year before. I understand the reasons of why we were, but you can’t call last year a 6-6 equivalent.

Look at the percentages man. We were 29-26, winning season. Not sure the SEC record but compare the percent wins vs 2-6 or 3-5 in football.

You aren’t factoring in the most important thing. State baseball has elite resources. State football does not. You can’t compare the two like that using straight math.

State football going .500 is a slightly below average season. State baseball going .500 is a terrible season.

Fair enough. If he doesn’t host this year I’ll be right there with you.

That’s asinine comparing last year’s baseball debacle to a 6-6 football season.

We play one of the worst OOC schedules I remember in a long time. We arent going to know anything in OOC. If we go undefeated its like par for the course.

I guess we'll find out if we suck. Because if we lose more than 2 games with that OOC, it aint good.

That's an OOC schedule a coach who doesn't think he has a good team schedules.

I agree and it really ticks me off to see what is going on with our baseball program. Here we are a week from opening day and we don't have a published roster and are one of two teams that hasn't announced when the games will be played. Lemonis has got to go.
