Why double byes for the top 4 seeds? Just a regular 16-team tournament would only be 4 games max, spread over at least 5 days.

That part cant be accurate. If you give the top 4 seeds double byes, then the remaining 12 teams play a round to reduce to 6 teams. Then they play another round to reduce to 3 teams. So you're left with the original top 4 teams plus 3 remaining teams (7 total). The odd number doesnt fit.

The only way it makes sense is if the next 4 seeds (5-8) get a first round bye

The West Coast Conference famously does this to protect St. Mary's and Gonzaga from getting upset in the conference basketball tournament.

Seeds 1-4 get byes.

Each "pod" has two rounds games to play a top 4 team. So the top 4 seeds have a tremendous advantage. They will be on Game 1 when others will be on Game 3. The West Coast Conference famously does this to protect St. Mary's and Gonzaga from getting upset in the conference basketball tournament.

5 plays 16 on Tuesday
12 plays 13 on Tuesday
Winners Play on Thursday
Winner plays 4 on Saturday

6 plays 15 on Wednesday
11 plays 14 on Wednesday
Winners Play on Friday
Winner plays 3 on Saturday

7 plays 14 on Tuesday
10 plays 13 on Tuesday
Winners Play on Thursday
Winner plays 2 on Saturday

8 plays 13 on Wednesday
9 plays 12 on Wednesday
Winner Play on Friday
Winner plays 1 on Saturday

You will have 4 games on Tuesday and Wednesday
2 games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (which gives space for rainouts)
Championship on Sunday

But Goat says I am FOS.
FYI, your above bracket isnt correct. You've got teams 13 & 14 listed multiple times. You have team 13 playing twice on Tuesday and once Wednesday

I think with the top 4 seeds getting a double bye, then seeds 5-8 must also get a 1st round bye, leaving something like this:

Round 1 (Wed):
16 plays 9
15 plays 10
14 plays 11
13 plays 12
(4 teams advance)

Round 2 (Thurs):
5 plays Round 1 Winner
6 plays Round 1 Winner
7 plays Round 1 Winner
8 plays Round 1 Winner
(4 teams advance)

Round 3 (Friday):
1 plays Round 2 Winner
2 plays Round 2 Winner
3 plays Round 2 Winner
4 plays Round 2 Winner
(4 teams advance)

Semifinals (Saturday)
Round 3 Winner vs Round 3 Winner
Round 3 Winner vs Round 3 Winner
(2 teams advance)

Finals (Sunday)
Semifinal Winner vs Semifinal Winner

I don't like it. After Lemonis makes the tourney as the 12 seed this year, how in the world is he going to be able to keep his job in 2026 if he is the 16 seed in 2025? It just isn't fair to a former NC Head Coach!

Great news. That means when were good again we can just throw 1 bullpen session and leave that sham of a tournament and focus on things that actually matter
