Saban is gone. Alabama is booty cheeks already.

We thought Georgia was the next Alabama. This is their worst team in 8 years.

The third best SEC program since COVID after Alabama and Georgia is Ole Miss, an unserious program.

The Big Ten is the best football conference.

The SEC is a baseball and basketball conference.

Oh good grief. Stop projecting your MSU insecurity. Give it a rest, and get a life. Unreal.

The real judge is money and TV rights. SEC is still king. Don't concern yourself with one year of on the field outliers.
Isn’t the B1G package (seven years, $7B) worth more than the SEC’s (ten years, $3B)?. Or has something changed?

For the past 20 years, betting against the SEC has been a losing proposition more often that not. I don't think that is going to change.

Now that it is legal to pay players, other conferences will be more competitive. BAMA, Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn and Ole Miss have a lot of competition on the $$$ side that they didn’t have the last 20 years.

Yeah I don't think the sec is the best conference this year from 1-16. However I don't think the SEC will always be down. The athletes are mostly in the south. That will always be an advantage.

Do you honestly believe that major programs in other conferences did not pay players before NIL?

Yes, they did BUT now it's legal and there is no moral or ethical excuse to not pay them. In fact, I'd argue in certain states and to certain alumni populations it might even bring a hint of virtue signaling. If you don't think there were high populations of whale donors unwilling to "cheat" that are now free to give then you must have a pretty crappy view of people especially those with money and a lot to lose like getting excommunicated from their status symbol of being a whale donor. With the current system the players will follow the money and in general the money ain't in the South.

I still think top to bottom, the SEC is still the best conference even this year. What we don't have this year is the one or two teams that are head and shoulders above every other team in the country including the rest of SEC.

Ohio State and Texas (before joining) have had SEC talent for years but couldn't ever put it all together. They looked really good last night.

This take may be a little premature and dramatic but I do believe there is enormous risk to what we know as the modern era of SEC dominance in Football. This current system is heavily tilted towards programs, geographies and states that have the money. That opens up the opportunity for a shift.

Will it happen? You can bet the establishment is tired of the SEC dominating. Remember when the Media used to try and push the BIg10 as an equal or better? It took a long time to kill that narrative but we did on the field with mostly our own players. Now those players are looking North again like the days when you had to be at a major program just to get on TV. Certain programs in the SEC and the South will still have the dollars to compete but this new system breathes life into a conference that had clearly taken a back seat to the SEC for over a decade or more.

No it’s not. If anything, SEC will be even more dominant. This year is an outlier with no really elite SEC teams. But over hslf the top 20 teams are SEC. And the # 10 SEC team would beat the #4 team from any other conference by 20 points.

The OP is right and it's shifting because of NIL. In the past the best players wanted to play for the teams with prestige and the ones they thought could give them their best chance to make an NFL roster. Those days are gone and now they are just chasing the money. The fact is that Alabama can't keep up with Texas, OSU, ND etc from a money standpoint. The trend is going to continue. The SEC will remain the best in baseball simply from a weather standpoint, but baseball doesn't matter in the grand scheme. Basketball will be dominated by the ACC and Big 10 soon again too. NIL is a very bad thing for the poorer southern schools.

Of course there was some cheating going on in other conferences but not like it always has been in the South. I traveled all over the country for years working and had countless conversations at lunch with customers about college football and most other parts of the country are not nearly as passionate and involved as we are. Other than a passing interest in games most just don’t care.

I disagree, this year is probably the weakest since 2008.

The fact is that NIL has made it to where there is no hands down #1 team that beats the heck out of everybody in a sleeper like Alabama used to do. Other teams have closed the talent gap and like Saban said, player development isn't happening because 5 stars don't practice behind other 5 stars and get better for 2 years before seeing the field anymore. The 4 star DL we got from Texas would have waited his turn years ago and played as a senior.

Sun Belt is the Fun Belt! ******
If I thought State could still recruit a little SEC level talent and be the king of the Sunbelt, I would be all for it! Sign me up. Unfortunately, State would be middle of pack Sunbelt without the SEC money. So I guess it is better to be bottom half SEC on SEC/TV Welfare than Mid-Sunbelt.

Don’t be ridiculous. We would double the next 2 Sunbelt teams combined in revenues. Easily. And we’d win the conference half the time.

Season 5 Nbc GIF by The Office

thanks Keenum, Cohen and Bracky.

Yes of course. If there's anything the SEC wants to do, it's to add to the losses of the top SEC teams and get rid of the easy teams like State. Totally makes sense if you're dumb

What the SEC wants is more SEC teams to miss the playoffs 👌🏼

Well, the bowl games are showing this to be correct. I was correct about not having the one or two dominant teams at the top. I was incorrect about overall strength of the SEC this season.

Note: This makes our suckiness even worse because it wasn't against a strong SEC. We wasted an opportunity with a down year. When we finally build a team (hoping Lebby can do it), I'm sure the SEC will be back at all time strongest.

Teams don't care about bowl games outside the playoff. Hell that's been true even in the latter years of the BCS, when a team would fall short of expectations.

The Big Ten makes more on TV rights than the SEC does and their rights package is up for renewal sooner than the SEC's will be.

Correct, and higher average population in the midwest than many areas of the rural south. So that means more subscribers by default.
