I've seen every team but Mizou play. The conference is WAY down . UGA has poor defense, LSU inconsistent and VASTLY overrated offensively, Bama weak in trenches.Texss weak offensively. A&M might turn out to be best team in conference. No Natty again this year. Big 10 looks like they will win 3 in a row, definitely the better conference at top this season.

I look directly at the young inexperienced QB's around the league.
There are a lot of very talented young QB's
that are capable of having great games, but I think the grind of playing in the SEC is hard to overcome
Just look around the country
Notre Dame is 0 and 2
Clemson has 2 losses
Florida has 2 losses
VA Tech has 3 losses
KS ST has 3 losses and looks terrible
UCLA has 3 losses and looks terrible
There are a lot of other power 5 teams struggling.
We'll know a lot more how the SEC stacks up
in the next few weeks.
But as of now , I agree no one in the SEC stands out as a great team

A "down" year in the SEC should be good news for UK but sadly we look like the #16 team so far.

Where do you have Ole Miss at?
Top 6 from what I've seen.
Heard people say we win that game with Boley but it looks like we caught a break with Simmons at the helm for OM instead of the Trinidad kid at QB.
I didn't see anything Saturday to be optimistic about.
I support Boley at QB but 12-21 against one of the worst teams in D1 doesn't make me think that him at QB makes UK jump someone in the SEC.
The defense was trash and White pretty much said so

UGA and Vols looked good. Both can beat anyone in the country.

As soon as Arch hits his stride Horns will be a monster. There’s not 3 teams in the country that can hold OSU to just a couple scores.

LSU is a top 5 team with maybe the best QB.

Ole Miss will be sniffing around playoffs.

Bama should even be in the post season mix.

Literally 6-7 playoff teams a couple of whom have legit shot to win it all. What more do folks want?

OSU appears to be the clear cut best team. After them, a pretty steep drop off. 2-12 or so would be a coinflip. IMO.

You touched on a few good points. First lets remember two years ago when i posted in the old board that big ten would rule the top of cfb until nil has some caps. Their money spent on rosters were just insane.

Then look at their staffs. Penn st paid 3 mil a year to hire OSUs dc, who won OSU their title. So OSU hires Matt Patricia, who was Belichicks best dc with the pats. Their spend is nuts.

You have some other schools spending on players too, which is why you dont see marquee qbs in the sec.

The sec will always be the best league top to bottom. There are no days off. The big ten is top heavy, but no one will compete with them when it gets to the final four in the playoffs. They're just outspending everyone else by an insane margin.

That shows how far our program has fallen. We went from 8-10 win seasons when the SEC was running rampant in national title games to struggling to win 4 during the down period for the Conference.

Mitch and Stoops both need to go at this point.

Yet OSU was lucky to beat that poor Texas offense at home. OU beat Mich by 11. No doubt out D isn't living up to expectations, but this UT QB is head and shoulders better than Nico. Not saying SEC will win a championship, but it isn't like the Big is running roughshod over us.

As a UGA fan you really aren't trying to tell me you think your defense is anywhere close to the championship defenses there in the last decade are you? UGA also lacks the absolute stud running back you have had in the past.Heck much like Bama, you usually had 2 of them. I am not saying UGA isn't good but they are not a great team like some you have had in the past 10 years. Same with Bama, LSU and Texas. Most years by this point in season I can pick out 2 SEC teams and with confidence say 1 if not both will be in the championship game, last year and this I cannot. The SEC HAS SLIPPED. Right now I can say with some confidence that at least 1 if not 2 Big Ten teams will be in title game. I HATE the Big 10, have since I was a boy, but somehow they seem to have gained an edge over our conference. Instead of crowing " we are the mighty SEC" our members need to figure out what made us so dominant and reaccquire it.

Adding Oklahoma and Texax at the same time as NIL has hurt the talent level in the SEC but its made it easier for teams to pick and choose through transfer, case in point UT

UGA isn't the SEC. I am just say OSU barely beat Texas at home with a QB who isn't living up to the hype, Bama trounced Wisconsin and OU beat Michigan. I just don't think the slippage is as steep as OP is saying.

Yes the championship game could be between 2 Big10 teams, but it could also be between 2 SEC teams or 2 ACC teams.

Preseason Josh Pate pointed out there was only 14 points difference between #1 and #25, the closest he has ever seen. Why is this?
IMO the portal and to some degree NIL has been the great equalizer. So teams that historically recruit top 10 classes see a lot of the qualitiy depth moving to other programs, and mid-tier types having the ability come and and purchase key players. The other component to this is teams are starting the season with a lot of new players. It's impossible to determine ahead of time how all these players will mesh both on and off the field.
Sometimes you can have a lot of star power but it just doesn't work, other times it improves your situation greatly.

At any rate this new day in college football does seem to have created more excitement with more teams as the wealth is being more equitably shared now then in the past.

IDK if SEC is down, we had 11 top 25 teams going into today. maybe more parity? but still the dominant conference.

However, O$U, PSU, Oregon give the Big 10 some power. and better games with IU, Nebr (this year), and Mich.

Agreed. Penn State has natural grass but there are programs in the SEC too cheap and so corny to have artificial surfaces. Just Bush League.

Vandy is looking pretty good early on and they are perennially cellar dwellers. Let’s see how the SEC stacks up in a month or so.
I still believe that there will be 3-4 teams from the SEC that could win the championship by the end of the season…
