Per Greg Sankey. Says moving towards the single division format, moving away from two divisions and no 4-team pods.

Not much of a surprise.

Does not bode well for us to ever make it back to Atlanta. The one year we did make it to Atlanta, we were tied for 4th best record overall in the league.

At least we can currently hold our lone trip to Atlanta, although disastrous, over the heads of Kentucky, Ole Miss, aTm, & Vandy.

I don't know why going away from divisions comes as a surprise to anyone. This has been inevitable. Eschewing "pods" does not rule out the permanent scheduling groupings discussed earlier, however. I would expect nine conference games as well.

Yeah, as I said in my OP, not much of a surprise.

I do think it sets up unfavorably for us.

Actually any chance we had of going back to Atlanta evaporated when Missouri and TAM joined the conference.

Not exactly. We were the best team in the East in 2012 & 2013 after they arrived, but several circumstances kept us from Atlanta. Honestly, we should have won the East 4 straight seasons. Law of averages suggests we'd have at least won 1 of them. DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing sets up favorably for us. We'll have to claw and scrape our way to wherever we can get without systemic help.

I get it, but16 is a ton of teams for a one-division conference. The most out there right now is 12 teams. The more teams they add - the more it makes sense to have at least two divisions.

16 team conference, there'll need to be 4 permanent teams. I hope we get Georgia, KY, Missouri, Arkansas.

This engenders more mayhem, hence, it's better. Way better. Additionally, your championship game will always feature two your absolute top teams instead of your top performer and some team that is only there by virtue of winning a weak division. To make it even better, I'm hoping for a nine-game conference schedule.

Yes, a 9 game schedule would work well for us. We would have Clemson in addition to SEC foes, so would eliminate all but 2 "whip me, pay em and send them home games.

That's the way the mop would flop. If we can't hang, the AAC is taking applications. They've got three teams bolting to the Big 12.

As long as Beamer continues to insist on a conservative pro-style offense, the structure of the SEC won't matter in today's "offense-first" college football. We will continue being a projected "W" for most conference teams.

It surprises me because it would be giving up the revenue from the conference championship game.

There will be a conference championship game, just as there is in the division-less Big 12 right now. The league that started conference championship games isn't going away from having one.
