We open with Ole MIss, which is a probable win since they're as dreadfully bad as we are. Our reward will be a 3rd matchup with UT.

For context, UT's average margin of victory over us this season was 43 points. Their average margin of victory vs all other SEC teams was 17 points.

The only teams they beat by as much as they beat us were Alcorn State and Austin Peay.

Seems to be no point in even bothering to play. We have as little chance of winning this game as we've ever had in any sporting event ever. Nevertheless, it IS hard to beat the same team 3 times in a season, so maybe the odds are in our favor.

I believe the difficulty in defeating a team 3 times in one season is when the teams are generally an even match ... since this is not the case, I do not expect TN to be concerned at all and that IF we were to beat Ole Miss (which we also lost to), it will be another drubbing ... we do not match up well with them (obviously) ... thankful we have the Lady G's to cheer on ...

Life is good - Peace!

They lost their point guard for the season who was playing 30 minutes a game, so not the same team they were earlier in the season. We're not going to beat them; I just wouldn't say we have as little chance of winning this game as we've ever had in any sporting event ever. Just making it to day 2 would be an accomplishment.

Well, we split the series with them, each team losing at home.

I'd say it's least a toss-up on a neutral court.

Take what we can get.

I can't imagine many Gamecock fans bothering to make the 6+ hour trip to Nashville.

I suspect Ole Miss will win, but if we do manage to upset them & face Tennessee the next day, we'll probably lose by 37................& there are some on here that will call that "progress" & be happy about it. @Viennacock

We would be playing our 2nd game in as many days, and a 7:00 pm start (previous day), next day tipoff time is 3:30.
Throw in that UT is head and shoulders better than us in every facet, and I fail to see any odds in our favor.
Crazy things happen this time of year, but I just don't see it.

I actually had hope of making a little run in the tournament until I saw the bracket where we’d get UT in round 2.
Usually I also believe in the 3 game rule where it’s so hard to beat a team in basketball a 3rd time. With Tennessee this season though I know L number 3 is coming. Hopefully we can make it past the first game though. Historically we’ve done pretty well on these Wednesday night tournament games

I'm calling it.

We'll win fairly easily tonight. Then we edge UT in our 3rd chance as UT is down their second best player. 3rd round we'll get by Mizzou as we lost a respectable game to them at Mizzou and should even up a bit on a neutral court. We'll get redemption in the semis against Bama and avenge our OT loss to them. Then, history repeats itself and we upset UK in the finals.

Go into the NCAAT as a 14 seed.

I think we're out of adjectives to use for this basketball team. I'll just say the first word that comes to mind........diarrhea.

It’s over now. I found the game on TV with ~2:30 left. I had to try to remember whether it was live or this was a replay….
Well, I guess the only question now is whether there’s anything to the GG returning murmurs a few weeks back.

Not impressed with this coach.

so far, co-sign. if there is not marked improvement next year, pull the ripcord. we don't even have to be good next year. we can still be bad and be vastly improved over the stinking pile of ice cold garbage this team was (no, we weren't even hot garbage).

no matter what anyone says, from Game 1 to Game 32, zero improvement.

edit: let me revise that. from Game 3 to game 32. we actually started out semi-respectably with wins over SC State and Clemson, then we got absolutely violated by a bad Colorado State team in Game 3.

The season went as expected. They were expected to suck and, they did. On the bright side, they did better than most of the experts predicted they would do this season. And Paris' first SC team did better than Staley's first SC team. So, I'm looking forward to the future for those reasons and also because Paris' teams improved each season in his previous Head Coaching job. Now is it a sure thing his SC teams will improve also? Of course not. There are only a couple of "sure things" in life. Sports outcomes are not one of the two.

lol, not this propaganda again!

Based on the various preseason predictions, we were pegged to finish 12th-14th in the conference.

We finished 12th.

When predictions put you at 12th-14th the takeaway is: they'll be bad, we just aren't sure how bad. Nobody distinguishes between 12th, 13th or 14th. I promise you. There isn't a single basketball analyst sitting there thinking "Well, those Gamecocks proved us wrong!"

Most said dead last...14th. They finished 12th. That was better than most expected. That is accurate.

I don't know if that's true or not. The various ones I read had us anywhere from 12th to 14th. Did you read EVERY pre-season prediction? You do realize that preseason predictions are just estimates, right?

Nevertheless, it's such a Gamecock fan thing to do to say "Hey, we were picked 14th but we finished 12th. Success!"

Yes it is true. I looked up various predictions. Most had us at 14th, including the SEC media, which covers all SEC teams closely and thus, the most credible.

I never said I was satisfied with finishing 12th. I said it was better than expected, which is accurate, as was everything I posted on this thread. So, I have hope for the future. Will he get the job done? It remains to be seen.

It's a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, small nail you're hanging your hat on.

I hope he gets the job done, but this year was a disaster. We were as bad as predicted and we looked worse than our record. We did not look prepared or well-coached much of the season. In no tangible way did we make any progress throughout the season.

I hope you'd understand that when preseason predictions are made, what they essentially do is look at the top 2 or 3 teams and give a best guess as to who's gonna finish first. Then the middle is kind of a crapshoot jumbled mess. Then they look at the bottom 3 or 4 teams and more or less randomly assign us a spot.

Nobody was poring over their preseason ballot trying to determine who was gonna be 12th, 13th and 14th in conference.

I'd rather finish better than most expected than the opposite.

They were expected to suck this year and, they did. But, at least they finished better than most predicted. What does the future hold? I don't know. No one knows. Hell...Duke fans wanted to get rid of Coach K early in his career there. Frank Beamer took awhile to get VT going as he did not get off to a great start. We will see what Paris does.

The bottom line is they still finished better than most expected. No spin in the world is going to change that.
