Our offense might lose to Vandy without him.

With him, we still have a shot at 6 wins.

6 wins? I saw a team that can compete with every team on our schedule. Being happy with just 6 wins is a low bar for this team in my opinion.
It all depends. Let’s see. We’ve all seen Carolina teams play to the level of their competition. Competing with teams we really didn’t have business competing with and then struggling with teams we shouldn’t struggle with. Time will tell if that’s what was going on today or if this team is as good as we saw.

After 3 games that defense has proven that they are as good as anyone in college football. That alone should keep them in every game.

Bama is the only team on our schedule that I’m skeptical we can play with. LSU is one of the better teams we face and it felt like every big play we made was called back by penalty and we were still kicking a FG to tie at the end without Sellers playing any in the second half

The Ole Miss offense is so explosive. LSU had 400 yards and 36 points. Ole Miss is good for that at a minimum.

I don't think Ole Miss can protect their QB as well as LSU did and Ole Miss hasn't played a contested game yet.

I didnt say id be happy. But yes, with him i think we have a chance to win 6.

I've seen us take moral victories and extrapolate subsequent wins WAY too often to continue to bet on it.

So did I and Ive been criical of Beamer. We have a 9 win defense for sure. If the offense can hold its own, like today and 2nd half of UK game, we can win 7-9 games. Alabama is out of our reach this year. But honestly if we are healthy I think we have the ability to beat anyone else on the schedule. We wont obviously but assuming we beat Akron Vamdy and Wofford, I could see us pulling 2-3 more wins out.

Im holding my breath waiting to hear the dreaded "high ankle sprain".

I have to wondsr though, if he was fine, why not play? Ashford leaves us one dimensional, a stationary Sellers can at least give us a passing game.
All I can think is they were told its not that bad, but, making it worse would make it a LOT worse and may lose him all year. Beamer may have chosen the long game, knowing we can win 7/8 games with him, but knowing we would likely lose today without him.

This was my thought as well. As close as we were to winning this thing you just can’t sacrifice the season for it.

I could buy that. And agree with it.

We beat akron with my dog playing qb. But sellers might win us another game other than the patsies. Ashford? I start to worry about the patsiess if he is our qb.

I did see one article that said "ankle sprain". Not "high ankle sprain".

We can rest him this week, so hes got two weeks to rehab.

Dude, they’ll run us off our own field if Sellers doesn’t play. They’ll be a double digit fav even if he does play. Kiffin is playing for the UF job at this point.

The UF job is his. He is going to UF because the amount of talent in that state pretty much guarantees a national championship if the Head Coach has excellent offensive coaching skills, which he does. He will make them a Top 15 program next year, which will be his worst team during his UF career. He is Steve Spurrier in the mid-1990s.

I agree that they will run us off our field if Sellers is not 100%.

Sounds like going to be fine. Sellers said he could have kept playing but understood the decision.

However, having been sidelined with injury in his first 2 SEC games, I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Some players are just snake bit when it comes to injury.

With the version of Ashford we saw Saturday, there are no guaranteed wins. We're only two weeks removed from that ODU debacle and that was with Sellers. Here's hoping Ashford has a good week of practice.

That seems troubling to me, given the state of our offense after Sellers left the game. Is he understating the injury or did our coaching staff have the wrong guy out there?

I call BS on the sounds fine part. I don't trust Beams at all when it comes to injuries.

Well, I mean it goes back to do risk additional injury and possibly multiple games down the road to get this one win? Just because he was physically capable of playing doesn’t necessarily mean it was the right thing to do with the long-term in mind. As bad as we wanted to win this game, it would’ve been foolish to play Sellers just to win the game and then lose him for multiple weeks.

So, you're leaning more to the "Sellers understated the injury" theory I mentioned? If so, I think I am too.

Not necessarily.

It's all about risk assessment.

We still have 9 games to go. With the information that was available at the time, I imagine Beamer was likely told "he can play but there's the risk he can make it worse". Some injuries are what they are and won't be exacerbated much by playing. That doesn't appear to be the case here.

Most likely it simply wasn't worth the risk of turning a manageable injury into losing him for multiple games, or possibly the season.

Do you risk the season to win this game?

Do you risk the season to win this game?

Well, that's the $64,000 question, isn't it? I mean, to some extent, we do that every time a key player steps on the field. It's all a guessing game, based on the best-available information. As the famous economist Thomas Sowell said, "there are no solutions, only trade-offs."

I don't have a problem keeping a hobbled Sellers on the sideline. But when you have an offense on the field that is completely inept due to being one-dimensional and a starting QB who says "I could have played," it has to make you wonder.

I'm all for resting Sellers against Akron, even if he feels good enough to play. But if it turns out that an Ashford-led offense looks as inept against Akron as it did against LSU, then I sure hope they send Sellers out there to win the game.
