Saw them for the first time today. Play like grown men. They were bullying Duke all over the floor. They must have thrown us around like rag dolls when we played.

Rick Barnes teams have always been physical. I remember when he was at Clemson. They were that way. I believe he beat us every year he was there. Not sure why he left there. Glad he did. I am probably the only person here who remembers an old Tennessee coach... Don Devoe. Barnes reminds me of that coach. I, for one, would not mind seeing the Vols win it all. Would be good for mens SEC basketball, which has done well in the NCAAs this year. Would be nice for people to think of someone else other than Kentucky when they think of SEC mens basketball.

I was at UT jr for grad school in 1979 - 1980 and watched all of the basketball home games. Devoe was the coach. You are right. He had a couple of really big guys and the rest of the team was built as well. Finesse teams really had a tough time dealing with them. It wasn't the prettiest product and some people called it winning ugly but it was effective. Frank Martin's final 4 team had some of those attributes with Kotsar, Silva and the big guards. They totally bullied Duke in the 2nd round of the playoffs that year.

I think one reason he said for leaving…he wanted better schools for his kids.

I could understand that when he went to Austin. Either they all got through school or the education of any still in school became less important when he went to Knoxville.

I heard from a Clemson fan that the reason Barns left them is that he had an affair with a cheerleader. That kind of goes with the better schools excuse LOL

I hate UT, but I like that style of play. I’m a Knicks fan (as little as I keep up with the NBA anymore), and I t’s been a good long while since I followed the NBA, but back in the 90s they had a similar style of play. With Ewing, Starks, Oakley and Johnson. I prefer that gritty, bruising style much more than any finesse razzle dazzle.
