Should they have chosen USM to host?

Forgive me, I've let this season get away from me. Mostly because of the failures of our baseball team and how much two bad seasons has upset me. I've got an M over S tattoo on my left *** cheek and I simply turned the TV off a few weeks ago and forgot it was baseball season.

but anyway..... back to my original question. Why are all these USM fans claiming they got snubbed? Were they really robbed of a hosting spot or are they just being regular USM fans thinking the world is out to get them? I think they were on the outside looking in, but they seem to think Cohen just hates them.

I love you all,

They probably deserve to host more than Auburn does. #19 RPI vs #20. Finished 2nd in a decent league and won the league tournament. That said, probably neither deserves to host.

No. West Virginia should have hosted as a 2-seed instead of Kentucky.

Besides, Southern Miss with a chip on their shoulder should be interesting. I could see them winning that regional. Clemson will be tough to beat on the road though.

Auburn deserves to host, was a little surprised at their 13 seed though. Indiana State doesn’t deserve to host. It’s great you played 11 teams in Quad 1, but you should win more than 2 of them to be a host. USM absolutely has an argument to host (ranked #13 in D1 poll, Auburn #20, btw). Campbell has a legit gripe too.

The committee remembers how ****** they were with their visiting tickets a few years ago. If they want to host, they can't be a complete dick to everyone visiting.

Heard a stat on the D1 podcast that in the last decade, only two teams with an RPI in the 20’s have hosted. USM finished at 21. Probably weren’t helped by finishing behind Coastal in the regular season. I don’t recall a league like the Sun Belt ever getting two hosts in one year.

But they are white hot right now and should be very interesting to watch this weekend.

USM's stadium is too small to host. They should be made to host at Biloxi's minor league field. At least then, they could get around 7-8,000 in the joint.

Compared to the other 16 hosts in this year's tournament, Pete Taylor Park (5-6k) would be about middle of the pack for capacity. Large capacity stadiums outside the SEC arent the norm.

Arkansas ~13,000
LSU ~13,000
Alabama ~8,500
South Carolina ~8,000
Florida ~7,000
Clemson ~6,217
Virginia ~5,900
Coastal Carolina ~5,500
Miami ~5,000
Kentucky ~5,000
Auburn ~5,000
Stanford ~4,000
Wake ~3,832
Vandy ~3,700
Oklahoma State ~3,500
Indiana State ~2,000

USM’s facility is above average compared to 95% of the country.

I forget that Vandy's baseball stadium is big enough to hold all of their football fans too

Campbell’s SOS is 80+. That probably prevented them from hosting.
Which is odd bc Campbell played more quad 1 and 2 games than Ind St Campbell was 9-5 against Q1 and Ind St was 2-9. No idea how they could justify ISU over Campbell if they can put take Auburn at 19.

Heck no. They hosted last year, barely got through their regional, and then we have them to thank for Ole Miss winning it all. They couldn't even put up a single run in their own super regional and lost by a combined 15-0 in 2 games against the last team in the field. They should never host again!

The SEC is a lot bigger of a geographical region than the Carolinas. There also isn't much argument for any of the 8 SEC teams to not host other than Auburn

South Carolina went 3-9 in their last 12, Kentucky lost 6 of their final 7 series. Their RPI’s saved them but neither have played at the level of a Regional host in over a month.

I think this committee overly emphasized RPI and it resulted in a couple of pretty average teams hosting while teams that had great seasons in other leagues are playing on the road

I’d love to see us hire the USM AD and have him work under Selmon with the idea of when/if Selmon leaves he’d step in. He’s a Mississippi guy who grew up an MSU fan. He’s turned around the entire USM athletic program.
