Has any community in the history of similar proposals said "yes, this is the place for a casino!" If everyone listened to the communities, we'd never build anything anywhere. For the record, I don't really care if they build this or not, but if they do it won't be the disaster that the opposition is going to make it out to be during these discussions.

To think we invited these bast%&ds in years ago. "Wouldn't it be great if we had some powerful people on our BOT and moved away from our cow college brand?"

Ira et al have not disappointed. They are just being themselves.

I have lived in this area for the last 20 years and have seen it grow. However, with the new buildings downtown there are lots of empty store fronts. The mall is abysmal. There are other shopping centers with empty spaces. Is there enough money in this area to really support it? I think there may be based on the expensive cars the international students bring to the area. I think the arguments by the town folk are not really enough to stop it. Kids can gamble online now with all the casinos that have apps for that so I don't see how a physical casino would increase gambling problems. It would bring jobs to the area but low wage? PSU pays low wages too for the same type of employment. A lot of money comes to town during football games and other events and now they would have reason to stay longer and go to the casino. Will it just be gambling or will it be like Parx in Bensalem where they also bring some small acts to town? Happy Valley is starting to become a destination to visit for more than just PSU football/events and this would be another reason to bring people to town to fill restaurants/hotels and stores for more than just PSU Football/events. If was the local gov't I would tax the crap out of them because casinos make a crap ton of money. They should make it contingent of providing 2% of casino revenue to a local county housing authority or some other county department they would spread the wealth of casino revenue to those in Centre County.

Without getting into all the weeds, with the way the Borough (predictably) FUBAR-ed "rezoning" - and is now trying to figure out how to put the toothpaste back in the tube (which is a Quixotic effort at this point) - and College Township tripped over themselves regarding the Casino, just to mention a few, I don't think many of our local municipalities have earned a whole lot of "trust me" capital.

That said, I believe it is highly likely that the Casino will be up and running relatively soon - and under the parameters (including "who gets paid what") as per the agreements reached years ago.

Pro tip: The Rural King at the Nittany Mall has great competition sauces and rubs on the cheap. You're welcome!

Soon after the casino is up and running, a new hotel next door will be built. There wil be free shuttle service to the campus for concerts, games, and other big events. Also the csino will have sports book. A casino in my area at a mall has attracked new food businesses.

Check out gaming receipts for 2022. Why not join in. It will be a huge hit in the HV. But, yes the empty store fronts Dwntwn are a terrible blight and something the borough crapped the bed on. They are clueless on how to solve it. New mayor is more worried about inclusion. City council and township not much better. They’re incapable of dealing with it.

A lot of "truths" in that statement.

Very true. You drive around town and see things like the Autoport hunk and other abandon buildings that would not have been allowed to exist years ago. Now the focus of local government is tunnel vision on social issues and the hell with infrastructure, operations, cost of living, affordable housing, etc.

Rent is outrageous
Rent is artificially set too high because they have no need to fill the space. At $1k per bed per month they are killing it upstairs. Borough needs to figure out a way of incentivizing ground floor occupancy. It’s a blight and shame on them.

Expecting the people who created the problem, to fix the problem, is probably not the most optimistic course of action.
But, what is the alternative? Sad.
