If you could bring back any offensive co-ordinator who previously coached at MSU, who would it be?

I thought he did a good job with what he had. He actually got fant some big games and he ran the ball pretty well. I was actually hoping Croom would keep him at the time.

The guy was an innovative OC (first team I ever saw play with 5 wides on a semi-regular basis was MSU when he was OC). Spurrier started doing it after we kicked his *** with it. His downfall was that his offense his last year was completely built around Sleepy Robinson and then when Robinson got hurt we had to choose either a QB who sucked or one who was totally unsuited for that offense.

no one.

If I had to choose, I would go with Bruce Arians. I still don't know why JWS fired him. We would have had a kick *** staff with JLD and Arians, but we've always either had a good OC and a bad DC or vice versa, usually vice versa,or either an OC and DC that both sucked.

My unrealistic choice in my own personal dream world is Norm Chow.

If we must run the WCO, I would go with Al Borges because he has run it successfully in the SEC.

My realistic choice would be Norman Joseph.

.......than just about every OC we've ever had. I don't need to tell anyone here that our offensive history at MSU totally sucks sweaty donkey balls.

...he was Shira's OC in 1972 before being named head coach. He knows the running game and his last season as head coach at MSU in 1978, Dave Marler was an all-SEC quarterback and Mardye McDole had over 1,000 receiving yards.

the offense that State put together during the 74 season....when we went to the sunbowl and beat NC. Walter Packer had mad yards from the VEER. Terry Vitrano had the F B position and blocked down like a dream.

I will never forget being in El Paso for a week before the game. We made every Sun Bowl appearance...plus some. Como se dice.....drunken fun? Gosh, that was 30 years before the term "Cougar" had ever come to common usage. I digress.

It snowed for the first time in 50 years, and they were completely unprepared. The Sun Bowl dozed the snow off the field before the game.....and piled it up against the stands. I heard the announcement that Johnny Mathis would sing the National Anthem. I turned around, and there he was 2 and a half feet from me! Hat off and a very quick realization that CBS had a cameral on him and ME!!! I think Johnny Mathis had a dream moment being around that many college athletes.

First play from scrimmage. Every NC defensive player was expecting Walter Packer to carry. Rockey Felker took the obligatory dive play to FB Vitrano ......and handed it off ! There was this odd temperature inversion with fog on the field. He ran for 50 something yards. When that happened , we all knew inside that the game was done.

All that aside. Walter Packer, Terry Vitrano, and Rocky Felker put some serious yards together back in the day. The VEER offense was Very Productive and Fun to see. It was very close to the Spread in its day. Very close in that at any point, a play would go for a TD. Any play.

it brings back a lot of memories. I had not heard "Vitrano" in a long time. And hearing Packer's name reminded me of the guy on the sidelines with a belt full of tear away jerseys - seems like Packer went through a half dozen or so (at least) during a game.

I loved watching Rocky make the last minute snatch from Vitrano and downfield pitch to Packer on the triple option - a thing of beauty like a challenging double play in baseball. The veer was (is) a fun offense. I enjoy today's remix of the veer just as much as the original version. It's amazing how things change but yet remain the same.

I saw and visited with Rocky today. He is a genuinely nice guy who loves MSU football. I am glad and grateful he is where he is now.

I remember it snowing and riding in the RV with my father, mother, and older sister to El Paso seeing the snow on the ground the day before the game somewhere outside El Paso... going to a department store and buying coats because it was expected to be really cold... the snow on the stadium seats... watching the game, or trying to, through that fog... and MSU won. Man, that was fun.

don't always make good OC's , with our defense putting us in a bowl game last year & losing our DC, I'm kind of worried about our offense this year again with Woody at the helm. Sly is letting his friendship with WM get in the way of us turning the preverbial corner into a great offensive team & he makes way too much money to win ballgames for us to keep on doing that. Also having a 100th ranked offense last year , Woody should have been shown the door.
