Without a doubt. Fant may still be a fan favorite (not one of mine), but we haven't had a QB that even approaches Madkin. Damn, those were fun years.

2001 was the biggest let down in my life when it comes to a college football season. Then last years hype about Henig in the preseason was also a huge kick in the nuts to me when he won the game for LSU. Henig was a traitor.

and he was blamed for everyone of them, too. Then a year later, so many of the fans that blamed him for his teammates bad play were Fant apologists. Not that Madkin was All World, but he he was solid.</p>

He would make plays like on this video and follow it up with crap. How many times did Sherrill bring in Wyatt to try to jump start the offense. Hell he even brought in Rob friggin Morgan. Don't forget the D continually gave him the ball back by holding the other team to three and out. I'm not totally trashing Madkin, just that he wasn't as good as some are making him out to be in this thread.

I posted in an earlier post that Madkin looked terrible on some plays. The thing is every QB we've had since him has looked just as bad on at least as many plays. The difference is none of them have had nearly as many good plays as Madkin did. I keep hearing about what a ****** line Fant played behind, and it's true. But, while Madkin's lines were great at run blocking, they sucked at pass blocking. The difference between Madkin and Fant is Madkin has the sense to throw the ball away when he got pressure (and he got plenty of it). Fant would either hold it too long and take the sack or try to be a hero and force the ball to a covered receiver and get intercepted.
