So do we stand pat at RB?

There are some guys left in the portal who were highly rated coming out of high school, but not really anyone proven. Antonio Martin from GaTech is in. He had offers from UT, Arky, Mich, FSU, Bama, UK and others. Don't know if there's a great deal of upside to many of the guys left.

I still don't think the portal is the way to build a team. If a kid isn't getting playing time at a school it isn't because he is so good the coach doesn't want the other RBs to feel bad watching him do better than them. Getting a player from the portal seems like a good way to plug a hole in an emergency or add to a group with a lot of injuries.

I agree with you there. I do think we have something of an emergency situation at RB, though. We don't need a superstar from the portal, just someone steady. I saw an article some time ago predicted Braswell to be an instant impact freshman, so I hope that's the case.

18, you were correct on LSU as your first thought.
Close to home and maybe a lighter load on his shoulders as 1 of 3 instead of the main man played a part.

Eh, it was just a guess based on the immediately obvious factors. I wish I had been wrong.

It's remarkable that Beamer managed to get him on campus. I figured he'd commit to LSU the day after entering the portal.

We may end up looking at our own roster. Not preferred of course, but out of necessity.

Look at guys that played RB in HS, but recruited as ATH. Maybe we brought them in figuring DB, but try 'em out.

It's just so late to bring a portal player in and the well is drying up. Very limited options.

Yeah, at this point, you're just taking a warm body. Diggs was a legitimate option to get an impact player, but I don't really see any of those left.

With our options though, we might just be looking at a need for warm bodies at RB.
Does the staff just take its lumps this year at the RB position, or do you try to get Braswell in and up to speed as quickly as possible?

Mario Anderson is the 45th ranked RB in the transfer portal DSK was 47th. I get he is unproven at this level but RB isnt that hard of a position to play, get ball, run in gap, get hit, hold onto ball. I think we will be fine with the talent we have plus Spencer wants to throw it 60 times a game with 49 of them being to juice so we dont need a reggie bush back there

That's assuming no one gets hurt. If injuries occur, the rb position can get stripped out in a hurry.

It is true, all we need at RB is someone who isn't a liability. They need to be at least a threat to pick up positive yards. But that's assuming our pass game is as good as everyone is hoping it will be. If not, we could be massive trouble offensively.

I've said from the beginning, I think Anderson will be a surprise. But can he take the beating he will get in the SEC?

Another unknown going into the season. We need a pleasant surprise.

Can we get Fenwick back?

I don't think we can afford to just "take our lumps". And I say that because of injuries. One, or God forbid two, injuries, and that RB room may not be able to finish a game.

There are 7 RBs on the roster. They could finish the game but it wouldn't be pretty.

Shane got us better, quicker by using the portal. You can't have 24 (just throwing out an arbitrary number because I'm not sure how many actually transferred) experienced players transfer out and expect to replace them with freshmen. That's currently hurting clemson.

I think we have to add someone. Maybe there's a grad transfer out there that hasn't entered yet?

LOL we already had to finish last season with a freaking TEā€¦ We are the freaking University of South Carolina. When have we ever had a good offense without a high quality RB? We need somebody to step up in a big way.

You really need someone who can block and catch the ball also. Otherwise, you put a lot of limitations on offense.šŸˆ

Beamer doesn't want just anyone. Just remember Carlins Platel was added the first year from D3 (or 2?) and he's done great. Beamer coached RBs for a time and increased their production from before his arrival. He liked Anderson, was surprised by Joyner and had only publicly pursued three other guys in the portal (that we struck out on). He might not feel he should be a desperate as some of us so I guess that depends on whether he likes anyone else in the portal. I still want to see someone else and I think Diggs could've made 9 or 10 wins very possible. However, I ultimately trust Beamer's judgement on players. Really going we get two of three between Hill, Carrie and Lewis (who is more trending ti Tennessee).
