Nope. All that would do is raise the cost of attending the bowl for spectators. It's already bad enough to watch what has become a glorified pick up game.Time for bowl committees to step up with NIL money to pay players to play. Changing times.
Amen . NIL and free transfers worst things in collage sports. to me compares to free agency in pro sports.Nope. All that would do is raise the cost of attending the bowl for spectators. It's already bad enough to watch what has become a glorified pick up game.
NIL is the devil. Scholarships are how these guys are paid.
Nailed it!You can call it whatever you want. Opting out. Preparing for the future. It fits the textbook definition of quitting. Argue the merits of it all you want, it's quitting. Your team has a game left and you walk away from the team. How is that anything OTHER than quitting?
NIL stands for Name Image Likeness....no where is there mentioned Play. That is still a huge violation.Time for bowl committees to step up with NIL money to pay players to play. Changing times.
Agree.Nope. All that would do is raise the cost of attending the bowl for spectators. It's already bad enough to watch what has become a glorified pick up game.

Paid with scholarships… Then the coaches should get paid like a HS coach. Think of it as an opportunity to lead these young men.Nope. All that would do is raise the cost of attending the bowl for spectators. It's already bad enough to watch what has become a glorified pick up game.

HO-LEE-CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Paid with scholarships… Then the coaches should get paid like a HS coach. Think of it as an opportunity to lead these young men.
Also, take it off the tv as nobody is interested in watching amateur sports…reduce ticket prices to 5/10$ and have it be general admission.
Since it is about the scholarships…let’s not spend half a day draining their energy and then expecting them to get the most out of their school.
I don't LIKE any of them that quit on a team.NIL stands for Name Image Likeness....no where is there mentioned Play. That is still a huge violation.
If you want to argue this is "pay to play" and it eventually becomes that, you can bid adieu to college sponsored athletics that participate in it.Paid with scholarships… Then the coaches should get paid like a HS coach. Think of it as an opportunity to lead these young men.

That's fine...I'm okay with that. You simply can NOT pay them to play in a game, period.I don't LIKE any of them that quit on a team.
If that happens, it is what it is... Nobody forces anyone to buy tickets or support their school....If you want to argue this is "pay to play" and it eventually becomes that, you can bid adieu to college sponsored athletics that participate in it.
No. What I'm saying is if that happens....it won't be any longer. It can and will affect the non-profit status of the Athletic Department and maybe the whole school.....can't work around that. Not to mention the players won't just be athletes, they would become employees....which opens a whole new Pandora's box of issues. If that happens, it is what it is... Nobody forces anyone to buy tickets or support their school....
My hope is that the current solution is improved, but it is not the fault of the athlete for doing what they think is best for them with the current rules...
No, but the bowl could probably pay them to appear in marketing for bowl charities, bowl sponsors, etc. It really is just semantics.NIL stands for Name Image Likeness....no where is there mentioned Play. That is still a huge violation.
That amount would be completely inadequate compared to the amount they are to receive just for the NFL signing bonus alone.Time for bowl committees to step up with NIL money to pay players to play. Changing times.
Perhaps.....but haven't studied the latest version of the rules enough to know whether bowls are among those prohibited from participating in NIL agreements. I would think they would be prohibited. No, but the bowl could probably pay them to appear in marketing for bowl charities, bowl sponsors, etc. It really is just semantics.
Yep…..think about this….many colleges, especially if you’re out of state, charge around 70-90k per year to attend. That is way more than most graduates start at. I do agree their should be some good stipend money equally like SOS suggested, but dang…….it took me years to get to 80k per year back in the day.Nope. All that would do is raise the cost of attending the bowl for spectators. It's already bad enough to watch what has become a glorified pick up game.

How 'bout lucrative endorsement deals post-game on the field for players from the winning team? That's fine...I'm okay with that. You simply can NOT pay them to play in a game, period.
Hmmm.....I may need to start looking at those rules more closely to see if I can find the loopholes. Can make money off that type of stuff. How 'bout lucrative endorsement deals post-game on the field for players from the winning team?
Gives players both an incentive to play and an incentive to win.
I certainly don't know the details of the new rules, but given how apparently easy it is to structure the NIL agreements so they are in compliance, does it really matter? Where there is a will, there certainly seems to be a way to do it legally.Perhaps.....but haven't studied the latest version of the rules enough to know whether bowls are among those prohibited from participating in NIL agreements. I would think they would be prohibited.
