This is why he should have been canned last year. First losing season in almost 30 years. But he had injuries to deal with, you see....sounds familiar. I did see he might be a candidate for the Miami job. Interesting.I think so. Otherwise, what kind of message are you sending to potential candidates when a 40 win, super regional season gets you canned.
The message to Kingston should be "keep doing it or you are out" or "once is not enough"!I think so. Otherwise, what kind of message are you sending to potential candidates when a 40 win, super regional season gets you canned.
Agreed. The seat is still warm as he needs to prove he can sustain this level of success next season.
Since going to USF his seasons have been back and forth. The only time he put together back to back postseason seasons was his last at USF and his first here.
He's not. He was only mentioned in one person's list. Didn't see him mentioned anywhere else. Miami is about as elite a baseball job as you can get....barely have to get out of Miami-Dade to recruit. This is why he should have been canned last year. First losing season in almost 30 years. Eh, they've fallen off considerably. I'd agree from a historical standpoint. Their last NC was 2001, and they haven't played for one since. Haven't been Omaha since 2016. Just like football, baseball is getting more and more national in terms of recruiting. Everyone is going into that area recruiting kids. Those kids have a lot more options to choose from than they did in the 80s/90s.He's not. He was only mentioned in one person's list. Didn't see him mentioned anywhere else. Shalala heavily restricited Miami athletics from recruiting the local talent. She didn't like the "Catholics v Convicts" image and then when that large booster started taking the local players to night clubs and provided them with goods, money, etc., she'd had enough. They have a new President who has reportedly quietly changed that policy and the athletic teams can now fully recruit the area....I think that policy alone hurt the football and baseball program more than anything.Eh, they've fallen off considerably. We hired him, and we were just 6 years removed from playing in 3 straight CWS finals, winning 2 of them. I remember learning he was the leader right before the announcement...after thinking how we'll get to pick from all these big time names floating around.
Right. Total do-over. Think starting over. He'll have two years to get us to a regional or feel the wrath of the hot seat. That is to say unless he can claim injuries stopped him from getting there.Right?
100% safe, but needs to back it up next year to show it wasn't a fluke (ala Frank Martin's Final Four run). If they tank next year (no tourney bid), this year shouldn't save him.
Not only does Ray give a long leash, there's no collar to attach the leash to.Shouldn't but probably will. We know by now that Ray gives a long leash. If the team tanks next year, this past season will be pointed to as evidence that he can get the job done. One good season sort of wipes the slate clean (not that it should). Short of a total implosion next year, I think he bought at least 2 more years.

If Ray makes any changes to Kingston's contract, other than terminating it, we are worse off than we thought!
USC baseball’s Mark Kingston could be in line for contract extension. Here’s what we know (yahoo.com)
Maybe it's confirmation bias creeping in, and maybe there are other comments RT made that didn't make it to the article. But what was missing? There was no vote of confidence. There was no talk of injuries. There was no confirmation that they were going to work on an extension...only that they were going to talk about his contract. "We haven't met yet...he's been busy". What?? Is he "busy" until 6/30 when the buyout drops? Maybe I'm just hopeful. If Ray makes any changes to Kingston's contract, other than terminating it, we are worse off than we thought!

Oh but there are some who wouldNo, I think he starts the season with a warm seat. It'll get hot fast if he's not able to replicate a similar level of success.
2024 will be Kingston's 7th season. If he can't build off this successful season and do something similar again, then when will he ever? It's time to put up or shut up. If 2024 doesn't result in hosting another regional, it's hard to see how you could argue he should be retained.
