So if Auburn has interviewed Smith and Mcdonnell

has told them no and Casey has told us no or was just consulted, we better be able to not screw this up. Smith would be our worst case scenario and that is a good thing. Hiring Raffo is going to be a travesty.

Like you said, I would consider Smith to be our worst case scenario. If he would interview at Auburn, you'd have to think he'd interview at State if given the opportunity. Now the interesting thing is, if he didn't interview at State, was it because our sights were set higher (McDonnell, Cohen, Showalter, etc.) or already set much lower (Raffo). Maybe he interviewed at both places, who knows? It's strange that we know everyone that Auburn's interviewed but pure speculation and rumors on our own front. Not sure if that's a good or bad sign but whatever approach Byrne takes that doesn't involve hiring Raffo, I'm all for it.

that our baseball coach situation is very delicate and that the last regime had a LOT of political ties and things like that. He also knows that Raffo is not the best choice for us. So, one reason for the secrecy is so that the cigar boys can't come in and potentially rescue Raffo or make some other decision that is not what is best for MSU. I'm glad that Byrne doesn't have a committee for the same reason.

We also need to remember that Polk is still around- I guess until the new coach is announced- and I'm sure that all of the nagging for Raffo is probably unbearable to Byrne. Not only that, but by keeping this secret, we're not allowing Polk time to build up a smear campaign.

I think that the longer this search goes on, it is probably for the better. Then once July 4th comes around, we probably need to start speeding the process up.

Polk's hanging around is what's got me worried. I can just picture Polk looking out the window of the baseball office at the Bryan building with a pair of binoculars trying to see who's going in and out. I have no clue where a coaching interview takes place though. You're right though, no committee is for the best. I know what our idea of a committee exists of.

I feel that we should at least be offering these coaches Before Auburn does. I hope that we are not taking the Ron Polk approach to the coaching search and let them come to us, rather we get aggressive and go after the guys we really want and do it before another school (auburn) is able to possibly steal one. I know that its auburn that im talking about, but they are still in the SEC and still have alot of money allocated to sports and would have a huge fan base if they were to succeed. Auburn may not seem very appealing in baseball, but from the stand point of a coach outside of the sec looking in, it has to at least be a consideration.

I just feel we need to be going after the guy or guys that we want and feel that we deserve and can get.

our football search not having any concrete proof that a search was actually conducted. (Other than the Jimbo Fisher and Spurrier at Waverly talk, of course). I think we've all grown so accustomed to LT's style that it's just only natural to go ahead and prepare for the worst. Come on Greg, don't let us down.

That fact that each day goes by and Raffo isnt announced means Raffo isnt going to be the coach. We are not going to hire Cohen before July 1st due to his buyout, so there isnt a rush there. There is lots of wheeling and dealing going on right now.

Relax

If LT were still in charge, New Head Coach Raffo would be getting ready for camps and fall ball right now.

You sound awfully sure

If it was going to be Raffo, it would have happened already. You can bet Byrne is talking to agents and coaches and sorting through all the BS. Its a process and is something that isnt done in 2 days. We have a real AD now, not LT.

And aGAIN, if its Cohen, he cant be hired before July 1st...so this dragging out isnt really a bad thing.

He's been put in a tight spot and the easiest thing to do would be to cave, and it seems that would have happened already. I think no news is good news instead of all the rumors.

It's been a few years now, but it happened at last. No way in hell it's Raffo or they would have announced it long before now. My money is on Cohen coming home. Let's just hope he can turn this thing around in a year or two.

Come on..we know you are a player or so you claim... Raffo will not be the coach as already stated.
If you could have anyone in D-1 Baseball or a retired Major League manager as your coach.. who would you choose? spill it..you wont say who you are so it doesn't matter.

Why so worried that you have to have raffo? worried you wont get that promised playing time and will get cut and forced to transfer? (go ahead and save us the trouble then and walk into Polkies office in the morning and ask for transfer papers.)

I think there are some that count pulling against Cohen. Thus the more secretive, the better chances of landing him.

Let's see, from our cop out list we have:

A. Polk knows more baseball than you or I have forgot.

B. How many games have you coached?

C. How many games have you played in?

D. You must hate your life and yourself.

E. You beat your wife, children and dog.

F. The man is a Legend- we owe him after all the good he has done for MSU.

G. The man wants what's best for MSU. (should come with a disclaimer- and it fits his personal agenda)

So, take your pick.

I really don't know exactly who, I just know there is some rumbling in the background.

I personally think most of the known candidates would do a fine job.....but I'd probably have to say Cohen would work out the best. Starkville is only 75 miles or so from home for him. Sometimes that's a big factor in recruiting, not to mention actually being happy.

His Dad passed away a few months ago, I'm sure a part of him wants to be close to home.

D seems the logical choice in this case.
