I never got a final tally, probably due to the terrible announcers CBS assigned to Little Rock, but how many blocks did JV get? Did he break Shaq's record? What was the final number?

You are right, I think CBS jumped the gun on their stats. He ended up tied for the record

Varnado's 5 blocks tied Shaq with 157 for the season, but although that's tops in the SEC, it is only good for 20th on the NCAA best. David Robinson was a beast for Navy and blocked (unbelieveable) 207 shots to rank number Uno on the list. Varnado has two years left to top that mammoth number.
