They are always ranked in the preseason sometimes even the pre-conference in every sport

Arkansas was preseason #9 last year and ended up with an overall losing record.
I wouldn't get too worked up over preseason polls. I think some of it is to help tv promote preconference tournaments in November and December. It plays better to say you have two "ranked" teams playing than just a couple of random P4 teams.
Also, I'm not sure how you rank any of these teams outside of the blue bloods with all of the portal changes each year. They're basing it on last year's results which doesn't necessarily transfer to a new team.

Seems like last season the same thing happened, um got most of the preseason love and MSU ended up better again.
