Ugh. That ankle injury for Izquierdo didn’t look good. She walked off gingerly. But I think she’s probably out for at least the rest of the game. Gonna have to hold on without our 2 best players in midfield in the 2nd half. Thankfully we have a lot of depth. Need a couple of girls to step up.

SEC soccer officials tell the football officials to “hold my beer.”
Too close to overturn. But bad call by linesman to call offside when it’s that close. Should be up 2-0. Hold on for 10 more minutes.

Damn! So close for KY. I thought it was a goal but hit side of net.

So with Arkansas getting a draw do we just need to draw one of the next two to win SEC?

That's how it looks to me. With the draw, Ark has 22 points and can get to 25 with a win Sunday. We have 24 points now, so a draw and a loss leaves us tied with us having the tiebreaker. A win or 2 draws and we win it outright.

Great job by the players holding KY in that second half. Should have been 2-0. There's very few teams in the country that could lose their 2 best players and beat a team of Kentucky's quality. We'll get Hodge back Sunday. Hope Izquierdo can be back by SEC tournament or NCAA at the latest.

If you follow soccer at all, you know grinding out 1-0 wins against inferior teams wins championships. It's easy to get up for a top of the table clash against Manchester City. Not so easy to do it for a game against Ipswich. You get three points for beating either.

You're right. If we had either Hodge or Izquierdo in the game the 2nd half it would have been a very comfortable win. Those two are the engine that drives everything for this team. Which makes this win more impressive.

edit: this isn’t to say we don’t have a lot of other really good players & great depth. We do.

What's the rule in college - if any part of the offensive player is ahead of the defender, she's off?

I thought it was the other way around where if any part of the offensive player is still in line with the defender, he's onside. Maybe I have that wrong, but I could swear I've seen them draw lines in the Premier League where the guy's back foot is still keeping him on.

Either way, tough call to get right there that made everyone sweat it out for the next 12 minutes. Great win for the ladies.

If any part of the offensive player that can play the ball is ahead of any part of the defensive player that can play the ball, it’s offside. Arms can’t make you offside or keep you from being offside. The announcers were just completely wrong when they said they thought the arm was keeping her onside. But they were freezing the replay a split second too late, after thd ball had left Perry’s foot. I think she was probably just onside, but in any case if it’s that close benefit of doubt is supposed to go to offensive player.

Okay, that makes sense. Yeah the announcers had me totally confused.

Yeah. Announcers in most sports aren’t necessarily all that knowledgeable. There’s a lot of posters on this board I trust a lot more than most announcers.

BTW, there is some talk about relaxing the offside rule a little. I believe they’re even experimenting with it in a couple of low level leagues in Europe. Don’t know all the details though.
