I'm in web design, so I look a lot of Web sites.

Louisiana Tech's athletic page may be one of the top three athletic web sites in the nation. They also have a great marketing person - love the green screen video of their head coach on their front page.

So here begs the question. Why can Louisiana Tech do this kind of thing, and we can't. Don't get me wrong - our Web site is significantly better than the days that you would load it and 5 minutes later "Hail State" would scare the bejesus out of you, but there are lots of things that can be done.

Damn, they do have a kickass webpage. This is my concern about our new huge HD board. If the same people that do the graphics for all of our other crap is gonna do the graphics for the new jumbotron, then it is just gonna look like crap, but just that much more amplified!! There is nothing worse then crappy looking video graphics on a huge screen. I hope we contract out the graphics to someone who knows what they are doing. We need to get whoever does LA Tech's webpage to do our new jumbotron graphics.

For one thing, it doesn't load properly on my computer. Parts of it overlap other parts and some pictures show only the top 1/4 or so before being cut off by what's below. Also, the talking coach on the front page that moves to stay in my screen annoys me (STFU already, if I want to hear you I'll click on you). To me, this website is a prime example of overkill.

I agree with a lot of points you make. Making a website like theirs is very risky because everyone on the web doesn't have the same browser and you run the threat of losing impatient viewers. Obviously though, the design team that put that site together obviously knows their stuff. However, the point I am making is that we have this great new jumbotron being installed, but I have not heard who is going to create the content to be viewed on the jumbotron. I hope it is someone like who is doing LA Tech's website. If we get the same crap that was cool in 1994, i.e. spinning MState logo, crappy animated footballs flying around and exploding into sparklers, repeating silhouettes of fans cheering, then it is gonna suck.

it will suck even worse on the new board. But if we use a group that tries to show off every possible effect they can create, it will suck just as bad. We do need to use flashy graphics, but like most things, moderation is the key. Don't forget that the main event is on the field, not on the video board.</p>

but seeing as how it's latechsports.cstv.com, doesn't that mean the website is designed by CSTV? It's not done by their athletic department.

our Athletic Department doing our web site either. It might look like it -- but, I doubt they do it themselves. I think the company they partner with to do the dogtag stuff does the website.
