Now I have seen the insides of hospitals and operating rooms - 19 times (Thomas Jefferson, Vanderbilt, St Joe's, Naples) - with 6 times on my heart and 28 radiation sessions for cancer. Too many times, but I am still here with 4 stents, meds and final upcoming shots for cancer. A GOAT and PITA about to celebrate 80 in January.
But my wife - only once before last week. And thank goodness for the 5 days spent in the University of Michigan Hospital. This place is enormous with the University Hospital, Mott Childrens Hospital, Kellogg Eye Center and Hospital, Radiation Oncology Hospital and the VA Hospital. The professionalism of all who treated her - 4 doctors, daily primary nurse and assistant, overnight nurse and assistant - negative covid test, negative RSV tests, no blood clots, meds and shots to find why her blood oxy levels were below normal without the help of constant oxygen. No COPD, yet her system was out of balance with no embolism to affect her lungs or heart.
Thankfully no blood clots in her system.
She had flown to Ann Arbor for a business meeting last Tues and never made it, admitted to ER on Wed (I was home in Naples) with extensive questions of every condition possible by personnel. Thankfully all UMich people brought me up to date when I arrived on Thurs. After so many tests and meds, we are home to doctor appts, continuing blood tests and MRI to monitor her condition -- right before Christmas. No travel to see daughter and rest of family and grandkids.
But ......... in my perspective, age and health is big business, just trying to diagnose and treat us. Since having given to THON and our daughter dancing for THON, the PSU Medical Center Development Office always wants more donations. It is always a concerted effort, but seeing what is a .... Big Ten Hospital system - Penn State, Nationwide at Ohio State, Iowa Childrens, Minnesota combined with the Mayo Clinic - .... and what they are doing for patients, the donations are put to good use and well worth the inner gratification.
If you can and when you find it possible -- Big Ten Hospitals are worth the investment. The magical world of Christmas will be here, and so will we, thankfully.
Take care everyone.
