Sooooo, did Satterfield save his job?

Does the performance last night change anyone's perception of Satterfield as OC going forward into next season? It was arguably our best offensive performance of all-time.

Or, it might be what happened in this game and the ones going forward.
That's possible. If what someone posted last week is true that Satterfield was one of only 2 coaches not to get a raise and contract extension last year, last seasons bowl game plus last season's Florida game did not make Satterfield's case.

You probably weren't even born yet but, as a student, I was at the Carolina-Clemson game in 1975 when we beat them 56-20. What an offensive performance that was with Jeff Grantz. Man, how I'd love to put 56 on them again this Saturday. The sight of some Clemson fans sitting below me in the stands shaking their heads was a sight to behold that day.

If you asked me before the game I was thinking the football program should part ways with Satt at the end of the season. Because the offense was just scoreless against FL. And it’s been a little stale all season. Right?!

But after the TN game……. I’m starting to think that at the end of the season that USC should beg him to stay and offer a raise. Keep the offense clicking like that and me personally, I’ll forget about not scoring in that petty little Florida game. I’ll go from his #1 hater to his #1 fan. There was such a drastic difference. I am wondering if someone else sorta stepped up in Satts place? Maybe he had Spurrier in his earpiece.

I guess let’s just see how the next two games go. Clemson and the Bowl.

Agreed.

I am also curious at the drastic difference in coaching from one week to the next. I would find it odd that the same guy called plays in both games.

I'll say it's 60/40 right now. He was most certainly gone before the Tennessee game, but now, Beamer is probably leaning towards him staying. Obviously, if he goes on to beat Clemson, then it's 100%.

Actually, UT fans are down on their DC Tim Banks, based on what I read this morning, complaining how he let one of the worst offenses in the SEC, their assessment, put a beat down on him. I would not be surprised to see Banks out at the end of the season.

Funny, everyone seemed to think they would score 60+ last night and we would struggle to even get on the scoreboard.

How did that work out?

They are really down on Martinez, the secondary coach, who was already fired from there a few years back when, I believe, Butch Jones was coach. I don't see why Heupel hired him back to the same school and now I don't see how he can survive.

One game does not make up for a season of mediocre performance. If you throw out the FL game you might as well throw out all the other losses and say we are undefeated. Many of our wins were won with special teams and defensive scoring. Many a mediocre salesman had one big sale and still lost his job due to under performance and inconsistency and, as a rule, the same applies to the coaching business. Judging Satterfield's performance this year based on one game is staring at the shiny object and missing the big picture.

Didn't read any previous responses. No need. I'm not entirely thrilled about it per se..... but I will answer your question > Yes.

No. It was an amazing gameplan that caught Tenn off guard. He earned his money Saturday. However, the previous 10 saturdays his offense was garbage and predictable. And now that clem knows what's possible, I'd imagine Satterfield's new wrinkle will be as easily read as his old stuff. He's just not good.

That said, Joyner is the dude. He adds everytime he's on the field. He should play every offensive down at QB, RB or WR.

It will be very interesting to see what we come out with against Clemson.

I was watching the game with a friend of mine who is a UT fan and I commented that we would likely come out against Clemson and score 9 points.

I do not measure by an isolated or "very few" results, but rather the big and long, consistent picture ... no, he has not, IMHO, and
for the Gamecocks to continue (yes, continue) to improve, we need not just another OC, but an elite OC ... one who is not afraid to
attack the ENTIRE (not just perimeter and sidelines) of the field ... one who is not afraid of going with their gut ... one who has a
"feel" of the flow of the game (Satt has not shown this) ... we have a very good QB who has been used poorly .... it is like having a nuclear
threat and using it like a bow and arrow ... I hope I am wrong on the following, but I suspect that Clemson will run all over, through, and
around us and our offense will be swarmed and swallowed by an aggressive defense ... again, I hope I am wrong and will root for ou
beloved Gamecocks but look at the TOTAL movie and not a single or isolated frame ... life is good - Peace!

Not to dump any water on the victory, but UT is owner of the worst past defense in college football. Clemson will present a better test of whether we have actually made any progress.

Whoever said it was in jeopardy? Bunch of crybaby, whiners, haters & complainers. 7 win season in SEC & going to bowl games doesn’t get you fired. If anything it gets you a raise & contract extension. Shows how non knowledgeable fans are about a sport they probably never played & damn sure never coached

Like I posted in the other thread, look up what happened to Kurt Roper in 2017 after we won 8 regular season games and then determine who are the “non-knowledgeable” ones.

It would get Saban and Smart fired...will get Jimbo and Napier axed, too.

Seems like you didn't play or coach.

I’m a 1970 grad and was at that game. What Jeff Grantz did to them was fantastic. 9 offensive possessions and 9 touchdowns. A dirty shame the last one didn’t count due to an offensive pass interference call. Both our receiver and the Clemson DB we’re using their hands and the call could’ve gone either way. Like during our 5 straight stretch, the Clemson people were not happy campers. I loved it!

I have made my opinion known. I advocated for him to return this year because he was a first year guy with a QB problem. I have also said that in year two, with enough talent to score, I do not believe he is the guy. Too inconsistent and unwilling to plan according to talent.

If my math is correct (I did it quickly so it may be off a little, but not much), going into Saturday’s game, we had scored 145 points in SEC play. 12 of those have been scored on special teams. Through 7 conference games, we were averaging 19 ppg. Add in Saturday and it goes up to 24.5 ppg. 19 ppg in 7 games doesn’t equate to many wins.

I will give Satt his due. He had a good game plan, called the game well, and it was executed almost flawlessly.

Played three sports & lettered in high school & played one year in college (left & right shoulder dislocations/one in HS & other in college) cut short my football career.

You, sir, are a rock star. Since you referenced coaching, where did you coach?
