I think we'll be fine. We played very well without him earlier in the year. OF is one area we have a ton of depth in... but it'll always be hard to replace his bat.

that he can come back on the 'quicker' side of an injury like that. The bad part is, he was just starting to be dangerous on the basepaths again. We will miss his 15HR's and 40RBI's as well (both team leading, I believe). The one thing we won't miss is is glove. AS has been good for almost an error a series, it seems- sometimes more. They were 9-5 without him earlier- not exactly stellar, but I think the team has gelled a lot more since then. When your player batting in the 8-hole has a .300+ average, I think you can find a way to scrape by offensively. Obviously, wish it hadn't happened (and it had to be the @#$@% Braves, at that), but now we'll see what this team is made of, and if they're really just a 'paper tiger' (or goat).

I agree. It's a 162 game season, and they are a good enough team to still win a decent amount without him.

As long as they get in the playoffs, which I think they will even without him for as much as 12 weeks, they'll be fine. As long as he's healthy and found his form by playoff time, they'll be fine.

with the way the pitching staff has managed to 'hold it together' so far. That is the area I am terrified about regarding an injury (or a Zambrano meltdown) having a major negative impact. However, so far, so good, and Dempster....who knew?

Based on our previous Cubs conversation I would rub it in, but since Pujols went down, hell the Cards are in the same boat.</p>
