How stupid, with all the statues being torn down, schools renamed, jokes about Tilman and Calhoun they name it after a General who owned alot of slaves. Not going to age well lol.

I like it. It probably won’t last past the first game because I’m sure the administration will helplessly capitulate once one ignorant college freshman gets his feelings hurt.

He will be renamed “They Being.”

Why do you think we have been called the Gamecocks for the last 122 years?

It's a bird bred for the express purpose of fighting to the death in illegal and underground gambling halls. If naming said bird "The General" is what pushes the perpetually offended crowd over the edge, they are even dumber than we thought.

Besides, maybe this is a naming rights thing with that insurance company that Shaquille Oneal is always pitching on TV.

I like it. Unless you are anti-military, don`t know why you wouldn`t. We do plenty of things these days that people 100 yrs. from now will think are so primitive, hard to believe, etc. People that judge others for things that occurred that long ago probably aren`t very good students of history. I like it and will think of Sumter or Patton, not the woke Austin.

All of a sudden, I don’t care about the privately owned live mascot anymore.

Roosters are naturally predisposed to defend it's roost, including against larger predators. It's this natural bravado that the British were equating General Thomas Sumter military actions to.

Fighting roosters have been legally bred for gambling profits worldwide for thousands of years. Same with dog fighting and other animals, including human gladiators in ancient Rome. This is not a recent happening. The world's mores has quickly improved over the last few hundred years leading to a much more humane society. Illegal gambling fight sites today are a considerable exception, not the rule.
