Speculation on Payton staying with Saints

It's that time of year when the Rap Sheet speculates Payton is leaving the Saints. So far he's been wrong every time.

Lol, wut? The fact he got the saints to 9-8 and a chance to make the playoffs was nothing short of a miracle when you look at the injuries and how Covid raped us

I’m sure Dak would love for Payton to come to Dallas. I’m not really a saints for Dallas fan but for Dak’s sake I’d love to see Payton go to Dallas.

He helped jameis and I'm sure Brees did too. Having a guy that's good worth qbs would be good for dak. Help him with some time awareness snd reading the defense better

He's done. Coached the Saints back to mediocrity

Won't work either way: 1) Payton is a has-been and 2) Jerry Jones is going to have a coach that is a "yes" man. This marriage is not going to happen and shouldn't.

I can see his argument.

Name one NFL head coach who coached more than one team to win the Super Bowl.

Kyle shannahan is one of the best coaches in the nfl. He's had the 49ers in the NFC championship 2 or the last 3 years, and maybe Super Bowls both times. He was 6-10 last year though bc of extreme injuries like Payton dealt with this year. The nfl is a league of really even teams, and when you have big time injuries, it's really hard to win

Yeah I was surprised of how well they were doing with Winston but once he went down it was over. However they still won enough that almost make the playoffs

The Miami dolphin game did them in. Missing 22 players to Covid while also dealing with missing you all pro wr, Qb1, rb1, LT1, LG1, RT1, and WR2 was too much to overcome

Kyle Shanahan is a trend-setter like Sean McVay...other teams/coaches adopt things they employ on their teams. At the end of the day, the head coach and front office have to both be solid for an organization to succeed.

The Cowboys have a weak front office -- therefore will be mediocre until that changes. Elway is bumbling in a leadership role with the Broncos.

Yeah I remember that game. I wasn't a Winston fan though to start with. If they want to keep Payton they have got to get a big time qb that they can win now. I've seen that they might draft Pitt qb. But the class is just not that great. and he isn't the same level as burrow, Mahomes, Allen to tear it up out of the gate.

How long do you think McVay’s window is with the Rams?

Two— maybe three more years?

They’ve been very aggressive trading and in free agency.

I don’t see their style as one that is sustaining.

They all coached multiple teams to the Super Bowl but won with only one team— with the exception of Reeves & Fox— neither of whom won as a head coach.

Getting to the super bowl would be better than losing in the wild card round. Honestly, who would you rather have Payton or McCarthy?

My sense is there is a larger philosphy that this current style fits into that is sustainable. While I wouldn't quite classify it as the TQM approach that the Patriots employ, I think their current approach is on a parallel path

1) Agreed, but with JJ at the helm, another SB is unattainable -- and-- 2) Neither. Both have realized the "Peter Principle"

So if Donovan McNabb had broken through and won a Super Bowl, the Chiefs shouldn’t have hired Andy Reid?

Perhaps, but that doesn't preclude a "diamond in the rough" in the latter rounds

Speculation that he may go in the footsteps of Gruden and get out while he's hot if he wins a SB. There's been rumors of him wanting a TV gig.

In the very hypothetical situation of that occurring and me having a role in the Chiefs organization I’d have done my best to find out if Andy Reid still had the… dare I say it… hunger to win.

Just saw a post from fox 8 that mrs benson doesn't know what his plans are for next year. Seems kind of like he mulling things over like Mullen.

Here's a cool Ringer article on Shanahan and McVay:

In 2017, the 49ers and Rams hired coaches from the same tree: Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, innovators that would define NFL offense for the next 5 years. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. On two changed offenses and changed men:https://t.co/6nXo5kta3U— Benjamin Solak (@BenjaminSolak) January 26, 2022
