Speed of our WRs

They didn't run past anybody. Tinsley had a solid game. Good hands and elusive. Washington with only 2 catches was surprising.

Still, I didn't see our WRs blowing past defenders. Thoughts?

If you go to ESPN and look at the plays they have as game highlights, they have the KLS TD play. KLS not only does a great job of keeping his balance, but there were 3 Purdue defenders that had an angle on him and he burst past all 3 into the end zone.

Other than that play I didn't see many plays where watching the network broadcast I could tell how fast the WR's were in comparison to the Purdue defenders. If you watch the game from the stadium you get to see some of the 1 on 1 battles between WR's and DB's that show how they match up speed wise, but that doesn't show up much on a network broadcast unless a WR breaks open and is being chased. On the Tinsley TD Tinsley had the angle on the defender, a LB, and he hardly had to run to get around him and score.

Not much we can tell from game 1. Ohio may not tell us much more. But - week 3 our WRs have to contend with S-E-C spe-e-e-eed.;)

I think a few of the WR's have under 4.5 40 times. KLS, Omari Evans, Kaden Sanders, Meiga for some. Not sure re Tinsley but he runs smooth. No idea re Parker Washington, but he is RB style elusiveness.

Not much we can tell from game 1.
We can tell a couple of things. One is that the OL isn't good enough to simply run between the tackles. They have to mix things up to keep opposing defenses off balance.

Another thing is that our LBs are a concern. It's a below average group without much depth. They sort of got away with it vs Purdue because they don't run the ball. That allowed PSU to replace a LB with a DB.

The DL didn't get much pressure but that might change. Mustipher & Isaac are coming off injury and Beamon hasn't played in a year. It might take them time to get back in the flow.

Purdue actually ran more successfully than most would have thought. at the end of the game, I think had they tried to run, they might have been able to run the clock. They didn't fail to run the clock, they didn't try. Jury is out on this front 7 stopping any power run team.

you are correct, our OL is just not able to move a lesser team off the ball. We have an OL that is made up of all 4* players but look unable to dominate. Run game looked not much different than last year. Also, the DEF was not playing to stop Sean Clifford running. In the entire tenure of JF football, the QB run has been integral to offensive success. A question whether we can have a good run game without threat of QB run.

Question for football guys...I am not one, never spent a day on a football field blowing a whistle, but why does it bother me when I watch us play that I never see our WR's in motion? I see other teams play and see guys from the slot move to the other side of the LOS, or in a 3x1 set I see a WR go in motion and become a slot guy on the other side of the LOS. And, the motion guy always seems to be open! Again, PSU does not do this and was wondering why/ Again, I know zip about coaching FB but I did coach hoops for 25+ years so I understand coaching, and I watch enough of football to pick things up...

I think the PSU receivers would benefit with motion. It could help with creating separation.

We do run motion. On the final drive, for example, KLS motioned to the side where he caught the WR screen to get behind his blockers.

The general purpose of motion is to determine coverage. Secondary is to get an alignment advantage or distract the defense with the movement.

I'd like to see us run the Jet Sweep or Reverse with Singleton or KLS vs Washington. Speed, speed, speed.

jet sweep and reverse will get consistently blown up by good defenses, way too slow to develop.
