i know everyone on here allready hates me which is fine but i found this out today and thought it was pretty funny...the guy who owns the bin, rock bottom, and restaurant tyler (Bryan Kelly) is opening a sports bar in the current whisky blues

going to be named Barrister's and it will have its own menu and have live music on the weekends, should be open in a little over a month</p>

I've seen the menu, and wings are roughly a dollar a piece, which is pricey. But the location is great, and more bars downtown is never a bad thing.

Cowbells will still get the Sunday crowd and the late night crowd (open until 2 M-Th and until they feel like closing on the weekends), but another bar in Starkville is never bad.

Is this going to be replacing whiskey blues? or will it be in the downstairs area where the abbey is/was? I thought i'd heard about the abbey being bought out by someone else.

Got it. I haven't been gone long but things seem to change pretty regularly in The Jewel.

I found the menu interesting, but the food not so great. My wife thought her food was good. So, maybe I just caught my entre on a bad night. As for whoever said the had a good wine list, your idea of a good wine list and mine are obviously miles apart. I doubt Starkville can support a good wine cellar in a restaurant to be honest.

I disagree. With Mugshots, Sushi on Main, State Theatre, OVPC, and Doe's (New name surely to come) there will be enough going on. Those two establishments certainly help the downtown atmosphere, but the Abbey and Whiskey Blues (before Brian and Ty bought the building) were dead or closed all the time this spring and downtown did quite well.

That bar has changed titles/themes a number of times. I liked Whiskey Blues - it was a good smaller venue with good live music. Where do you go for live music now? No offense to Rick's but that isnt exactly the crowd I want to run with nowadays (size-wise or in substance). Is the State Theater hosting a lot of live acts or are they still just mainly doing DJ/dance music? I know Mugshots will cram a mini-band into the corner from time to time.

My group of friends (late 20's alums) tended to hank out at Mugshots/Whiskey Blues/The Grill over the last couple of seasons, but I imagine there will be some different things to do this year. Sadly I havent been to Starkville (other than just driving through) since early basketball season. Hook me up with some info people - what is the scene looking like this year?

Hate is such a strong word It implies that we have put thought into how we feel about you....Apathy probably better describes it. I don't think you have stirred enough interest to garner strong feelings. Except for your inexplicable love of huge quantities of horrible pizza at a low price. There was some interest along those lines.

Agree Dave's is the only place to catch good music in Starkville. Barrister's is supposed to be adding a balcony for smokers which they really need.

... you show up here yesterday and spout off some **** about 2 things needed to complete starkville: a ****** pizza joint, and a sports bar downtown; wanting everyone to say something to the extent of "Oh hell yeah! A sports bar downtown would be awesome!".

Then 24 hours later you say "Oh hey, guess what I found out? They're opening a sports bar downtown!"

Hmmm that's an awfully big coincidence.

live music on weekends=not a sports bar. I don't want to hear some filthy hippie strumming out to some Panic tune, I want to hear the damn game.

you guys got me i like to set up my post 2-3 days in advance that way i can be the one to break a story on a message board...seriously?
a friend of mind and fellow sixpacker who knows a lot about the goings on in starkville told me about it today, he thought i would be interested in knowing considering the topic of conversation yesterday

what you think about this benatmsu...im thinking about starting a post tonight that says "i wonder if anyone will ever win 8 gold medals in one olympics" that way when phelps does tomorrow night ill be able to start a post that says "you heard it here first phelps wins 8"

if i knew there was going to be a sports bar yesterday why wouldnt i just post that yesterday? you honestly think that i sat here knowing there were plans for a sports bar and decided rather than saying it straight up i would start a thread about how i wish there was a sports bar downtown?? if that were true then i guess you can expect me to breaking news about a cicis opening soon

We all know internet cred is important. Rob Haralson once told me my negative posts were bringing down the program. Did a good job because State only won 17 games in 6 seasons.
