A former Jacksonville Jaguars employee, Amit Patel, is accused of stealing more than $22 million from the franchise from 2019 to 2023 by exploiting the organization’s virtual credit card program, and he used that money to buy, among other items, two vehicles, a condominium and a designer watch worth over $95,000. Some of that money was also allegedly used to purchase cryptocurrency and place bets with online gambling sites.

Hey, he wanted to be just like one of the players by getting his own share of bling and things....

My question is; How could he have gotten away with abusing a virtual credit card system for three years? You would think that a multi-million dollar organization like an NFL team would have security safeguards and audits in place to catch things like this or flag purchases that are "out of the usual".
My first thought when I saw this yesterday. It's one thing when an individual is running their own custom Ponzi scheme, but where were the safeguards and auditors?

I believe that the answer to both your questions is quite simple. It’s the NFL and none of the above referenced purchases were deemed as unusual by the auditors.
