Top of my SPS feed today:

  1. Northern Illinois transfer Nevaeh Sanders news
  2. West Georgia transfer Malik Charles news
  3. Marshall transfer Landyn Watson news
  4. Sam Houston State transfer Chris Murray news
I hope all of these guys show up and show out, but I'm struggling to think of those schools being able to provide us what we need in the SEC. I suppose one angle is that we could be getting the guys who got overlooked out of high school, turned into stars, and the smaller school can't pay them?

As hard as I am on Lenny, I don't see his recrootin as a problem, as it's the typical MSU level of players. I am a fan of going and getting up and comers from the G5 in this new era. I also still believe in JUCO (particular in-state for us, since they are an easy resource to get late bloomers). I don't like how he was trying to get out-of-state high schoolers, which is a futile effort IMO.

His problem is that he's not a good enough coach to win with these guys. He's got no plan for development and he obviously thinks he's going to get better players out of the portal than we currently have, and it just hasn't been the case.

Maybe these guys are cheap. I mean I damn sure would think so and next week we will see more talented players come in. Still need DT. Unless they think the guys we have can step up. Idk ? We are never gonna be able to spend 15 to 20 million every year just to field a competitive team and it looks like that's the price these days. Where does State come up with that money ?

Our "G5 team" did compete against Texas and Georgia this year. Ran both of those games to the wire. Texas was a 1 score game for 3 whole quarters. Georgia only beat us by 10 at their house
Our G5 team just went 2-10 (0-8) & lost every SEC game by double digits.

Unfortunately, this transfer season is looking about what I expected it would look like. Next fall is gonna be a lot like this fall was.
Likely staring at a 3-9, possibly 2-10 year.

If Lebby goes winless in the SEC again next year, which is entirely possible and I might even say “likely,” does he make it to year three?

what a disaster

None of these guys will help. We are putting a G5 team on the field to compete against Texas and Georgia.
I got bad news for you. We were going to lose those two games regardless of who you think we should be recruiting. We are trying to field a team that can beat 6 or 8 other teams on the schedule. So you can take your womp womp and stuff it in a sack, Mister.

I know recruiting is big deal in deciding how "good" your team will be. But you also have to give some leniency when involving wins/losses when you are also comparing NIL, talent on team currently, etc.

I just think its time to give a coach, whichever coach that might be a chance. It's pretty unsettling at just how many coaches we have gone through, save Leach, in the last 10-15 years.

For whatever reason, there are limitations at certain jobs. We definitely have limitations when we are compared with the other SEC teams. A coach needs a few years, not 2. Until Mississippi State gets to the root cause and fixes things, this exact same scenario will continue.

Have the recently announced contributions to Mississippi State football not been to the BC/State Excellence Fund? In other words, not to the Bulldog Initiative?

If so, we are at least 7 months away from those funds being used to pay players.

My interpretation is that we are punting until next year's cycle. I don't expect us to field a competitive SEC football team in 2025.

They were announced at Excellence Fund donations. But I’m sure the money will find a way to where it is needed now. Probably initial funding of the donations to the Initiative with subsequent payments to Excellence Fund. We’re not just punting on paying players this recruiting cycle. Not even our leadership is that stupid.

The biggest problem for us is that aside from Mullen, the best coaches we've hired have had D1-A head coaching experience and practically every one that didn't was bad. Mullen spoiled us in the sense that we lucked out with a young coordinator hire and have tried to replicate it ever since.

The next hire needs to be a known quantity head coach. I'd rather have a coach who has a 90% chance of getting us between 6-9 wins a year and would never get us above 10 than one who might be capable of getting us 12 wins but is just as likely to get us only 2.

I'm at my "Croom" minimum wish of being competitive and looking like we may have played the game before. Anything above that is gravy.
