What is your impression of the proposed stadium improvement project(s)? It appears there is a loss of about 8,000 seats. Much of it looks like structural repairs, rest room enhancements and suite additions. If the stadium has structural weakness, that would seem to need addressing pretty soon.

Are the remaining seats expanded for more comfort (width)? I did not see much other than some seats would have backs. If you have ever gone to UMich "Big House" all the "expansions" were paint brush = seats closer together. An engineering prof from TAMU did some kind of stadium "seating surface area" analysis and UMich was not even in the top 5 in seating area.

Where did you find details on the proposal? I certainly hope they aren’t decreasing seating to under 100,000.

Unless they're making the side significantly bigger they're bound to lose seats going from 20" bench spacing to seat backed chairs. My initial thought was if PSU would even remain larger than Tennessee. Since PSU stopped selling out games on a regular basis there have been rumblings that seating would decrease to force people to buy more season tickets to ensure a seat for the couple premium games.

Not sure where you are getting that number.

The “107k strong” is important to Franklin and Kraft so I would anticipate the capacity remaining close to the same — or at least over 100k. Since they are completely tearing down the west side, they can design it to lose little or no seating, including additional suites. Maybe they push the footprint out on that side or maybe they add an additional deck or two as they did with the south end zone renovation. Because they will be starting with a relatively blank slate, they have some flexibility in the design.

I thought I read the “lower bowl” on West and East sides would be chairbacks while the uppers would remain benches. This means more $$ for the chairbacks and we just moved our seats to the lower bowl this year. I also understand there will be expanded concourses and most likely escalators to the upper levels. Perhaps luxury troughs in the new suites on the West side? 😳😉

I have no idea what the new official capacity will be. Hopefully it will stay above 100,000 and be something like 100,409. Or 101,409. Or 102,409.
I may just be a stupid ND fan, but why the 409 at the end of each number? Does it have some significance?

When ND last renovated their stadium, they added luxury boxes but also widened the seats in the bowl, resulting in a slightly lower capacity.

Stanford is the one school that really downsized their stadium's capacity ... the old stadium held 85K and the new one on the same site holds a bit over 50K.
