What if you go a Braves game, stand while everyone else is sitting, and do the chop AND the war chant (even though it's been de-emphasized)?? Asking for a friend.

I think it's fine to stand, but I also think it's rude to expect anyone sitting behind you to have to stand as well. If the people behind are sitting, then I think it's good manners just to sit as well. Exceptions include actual celebratory moments. If those folks choose not to stand at those times, then they have to accept they are likely in the minority.

That's pretty fair. If I want to stand and nobody around is standing, I usually just wait until one of those big moments and everybody stands. Then i just don't sit down....be a leader. It's funny to see how many people will keep standing just b/c others are.

It could be that the others just want to be able to see. Standing just for the sake of standing at games has never made sense to me.

This was debated for PAGES on the old board.

Imho, there is no right answer.

You're a jerk if you stand and the people behind you want to sit.

You're a jerk if you want to sit and whine to the people in front of you who are standing.

The only time it's no issue is of everyone does the same thing, which is rare.

If I HAD to choose, I fall on the side of the standers. You paid for a ticket, you should be able to go and cheer for your team. If someone is uncomfortable or incapable of standing, rather than insist dozens of people around you bend to your will, just watch it on TV.

I have a bad back so I need to sit. I’ll stand up to cheer but I can’t stand for very long. Is there an old person section in the stadium?

This is an easy answer...use common decency and common sense. If a big play or score happens, or it's a big moment in the game, standing is reasonable. Otherwise, do what everyone around you is doing.

Pricks that insist on standing for an entire game are the reason we dropped season tickets after 40 years. We're still there but watching comfortably at the motorhome.

I generally can't sit still. Especially if I'm anxious, which I find myself in most games. So I stand. I stand at home when I'm watching on TV too. Not the whole game, but a lot. If someone behind me asks nicely if I could sit down so they could see I would with no problem.

If we suck then people who hate fans standing up will be able to see the field better while sitting.

And that applies to the theater also, I imagine.
Makes sense that some of our football fans think football games should be enjoyed in the same manner as theater... don't forget your parasols and opera glasses!

You can't make sense out of standing when everyone else in the vicinity is sitting. That was the premise of the OP.

Hat (parasol) check
Binoculars (opera glasses) check
Umbrella (to make sure that no one behind you can see) check
After all, you paid for your tickets.

Dang straight. Step on as many people as you can. While you're at it, go ahead and open your door into the vehicle next to you in the parking lot. After all, both of y'all are between your lines but aren't you entitled to the entire extent to which your door can open? I mean, isn't it all about "you"?

If you buy them both, that's good. I've got a vehicle I'm trying to protect.
Oh, don't you just love it when some *** decides to take up more than one space when spaces are hard to come by? Or, when traffic is baked up and somebody decides to nose into the next lane and blocking everybody behind them from passing? And, the worst of all is somebody in the checkout lane ahead of you that has to get at least 3 price checks because they think it was priced wrong.

I've always said we don't execute enough people in the United States.

Not quite the same but, my wife and I were at a Rafa Nadal match at the French Open and a woman sitting directly in front of us was wearing a very large hat blocking our (and others) view. After several minutes of not being able to see the action I asked her to remove it. She got up and left and didn't return.

Mission accomplished.

Me and GF enjoy sitting in the Cockaboose Club. Screw sitting on a crunched bench with no backs for 5 hours. In a few years I am dropping our tix
