Saw the interview with Luck this morning on GameDay on their new GM model

I wonder how many programs are watching this closely to see how it pans out and how many may already be doing this in “stealth mode” already.

I wonder how such a thing might go over at other schools. I don’t think this would fly at MSU.

It might be new to Stanford but it ain’t a new thing.

State has an Associate AD for Player Personnel after all.

When it comes to NFL teams, it appears to me that a more common model is that the Coach & GM have to get along and be in sync since it’s the Team President/Owner who makes the ultimate decisions.

Most schools have a GM nowadays. But the idea of the HC reporting to one like they are doing doesn’t seem like a great way to attract good coaches.
I wonder if it’s a strategy to supplement perceived coaching “deficiencies”

I suspect it’s more to supplement the perceived new coaching headaches in the Age of NIL but it’s one of its happy consequences.

People here complain about colleges and universities adding more administrative staff and personnel but there’s silence here because it’s in an area that’s a perceived need.

At least athletics pays for itself (in theory)

Seems to me just more of an organizational necessity, not something where you can truly innovate.

Basically, with NIL in house, there’s more work to do. So, have to hire someone to do it.

DD….I’ll be interested in seeing how this will be managed as time wears on

In my mind, the sky is the limit as the NCAA has made it so that the “toothpaste can’t be put back in the tube”

Tell that to the fans who are asked to give to NIL (de facto)
I get it and applaud those who deeply contribute $$

That said, the institution should make its strategies clear. If not, then it seems that efforts to raise money could cannibalize each other — creating donor fatigue
