Annual trip for a PSU football game this year. Rented a vrbo in Spring Mills. Not familiar with that area.
Appreciate any:
-Dining tips for that area
-Indicates 30 minute drive to SC. How much drive time would we add on game day from that location?
-We will arrive on Friday afternoon and always take my grandsons to Pegula to do public skating as they are ice hockey players.
-Any additional tips appreciated.

Which game? The volume and intensity of traffic will depend on the game/opponent.

"Spring Mills" is a huge area, and can be an address just off 322 near Seven Mountains to something 20 miles away on Route 45 near Millheim. Your best bets for food would be in the Boalsburg area on the south side of town. If your address is down Route 45 several miles, that would open up options in Centre Hall and Millheim.

The Whistle Stop in Centre Hall has reopened. Was in Millhein on Saturday and a couple people who were there really liked it.

Spring Mills boasts a local watering hole known as The Frosty Hook. I would encourage you to take 30 minutes out of your trip to visit “the hook” and soak yourself in the culture of Spring Mills. The sign on the front door used to read “Absolutely no parrots or other animals allowed” so leave Polly at your vrbo when you decide the time is right to savor an ice cold Bud Light draft.

There is a small pizza shop in Spring Mills called Streamside Family Restaurant, not a fancy place but heard the food is good. Also the Elk Creek Cafe and Aleworks is in Millheim, PA which is very close to Spring Mills is very very good but may required reservations on game day. Spring Mills is pretty rural and can cover a wide range of places like others have said. It is about 30 mins from the stadium down Route 45 or Route 192 depending on where you are in Spring mills. You probably won't hit much traffic until you get to 322 or 26 closer to the stadium. Watch out for the Amish Horse and Buggies though as you will be in the middle of Amish country in Spring Mills.

Also Highly Recommend Elk Creek in Millheim. Know the Tim's very well, (Owner/Brewer), and their food is very very good. Have a great mix of Ales and Lagers. Poe Paddy Porter one of my all time favorites. Would be a great Friday evening meal if you don't want to go downtown in SC. NO TV in the brewery if you want to see any friday evening games. Another favorite in Millheim is Burkholder's Market....which has a large hot buffet that never disappoints if you want to grab food to go and head back to your rental.

There is also a winery called Pisano's in Millheim. Millhiem is about a 10-15 min(or less) drive from the little town of Spring Mills. You will need to go North on Route 45 to get to Millheim from Spring Mills(this would be the opposite way you would go to get to State College from Spring Mills). Beautiful area though and very rural outside the little towns.

I live in between spring mills and millheim on 45. Lots of good info here. I would also recommend elk creek for drinks. The frosty hook is cheep and very much a local bar with good food, but takes a little while to get food out. On Friday nights there is amish chicken dinners right on 45 just after penns valley schools and before millheim, great food and there is a Dutch bakery attached. Very rural out here watch out for buggies. I usally make my spot in lot 17 in 25 minutes so traffic not a problem. I can answer any other questions if you like.. enjoy

Penn’s Valley Meats has some good stuff if you’re planning on tailgating.

Thank you.
Big Rickster, where in “ Spring Mills” are you staying? Elk Creek is Excellent and 10 minutes away. Elk Creek also sells their beer in cans for your tailgating needs. Their food is also excellent.

Somebody mentioned the Frosty Hook. Excellent. Go in like you own the town, get a pitcher and play a few games of pool. If you are so moved to rip through some shots, go for it. Always vomit out front off the porch.

Is the pizza place still open? go to OIP in Millheim for pizza. Vinnie’s kid Sal now owns it. Makes a great pie, if it’s a later game, order up tray for your tailgate.

BTW, next season consider renting a few rooms at the Feathered Hook Fly shop and Bed and Breakfast operation. Eggs, bacon, sausage and toast for breakfast along with an endless cup of coffee.

The Amish Chicken stand is good, take cash. And most definitely as mentioned, watch out for the buggies, lots of guys out on dates in those buggies on Friday nights and their eyes are not on the road.

Enjoy the valley, the unending constant blam blam blam you may hear on Saturday morning is the Firing range at Spring Mills Rod and Gun club.

One last thing, and this is serious. Depending on where you are staying in “ Spring Mills” getting on and off 45 can be dicey in football Saturdays as a couple of the access points are tight. If you are in town it is easier from the east side than the west side right by The Frosty Hook.

I see Penns Valley Meats gets a mention. Lots of folks bring a cooler and pick up call ahead orders to take home. Their smoked pork chops are out of this world. Order a dozen, it will set you back about $ 25.00 and you will thank Tgar for this advice. They also have smoked sausages and cheeses for tailgating.

There is also a supervised play ground for the kids while you and the wife have a cocktail or lunch.

Children’s Playground - 1900
That long, angled ladder looks particularly challenging.
Look at that kid in the center at the top just kicking it lol 😬

We are renting a VRBO that used to be a church. My son has the exact address. He texted me pictures. Pretty cool renovation job.
