is the current Stillers what you expected post Big Ben?
For this year, yes. The OL is awful and they are playing a rookie QB. The defense is more concerning. Good with Watt. Awful without Watt. They give up waaaay to many rush yards per game. Not a typical Steelers defense.

Watt should have taken the rest of the year off. He's playing with all kinds of injuries and he's not very effective.
I thought the OL had done better the last few games but that might have been the competition.
Both Canda (OC) and Austin (DC) should be on the hot seat. That performance by the defense yesterday was pretty bad.
Oh and find a new punter. Ooof that guy stinks.

The 'good ole days' ended when Ben retired.

Now we all get to see what Tomlin is really about. Squat! He chooses coordinators who he can control and then take the heat off of him. His game day management reminds me of CJF.

The Stillers don‘t fire coaches, and Tomlin isn’t that old. So 10 more years or Tomlin? 15? 20?

It isn’t a question of whether Tomlin’s got this. It’s just a matter of how long.

I think any other organization would be at least exploring some changes at the head coaching spot. Was the second half of Ben's career really "the good old days"? Including this season, the Steelers will have 3 playoff wins in 12 years. Is that acceptable anywhere else? What if that happened in Dallas? Or Cincy? Or Philly?

What concerns me most is the defense. Highest paid unit in the NFL and they can't stop a third string QB / Ravens rushing attack. That's even with Brian Flores, who I really like.

QB issues are what they are. I think Kenny deserves some patience. But does he really feel like he's on the same level as, say, a rookie Joe Burrow? And with the benefit of hindsight, was bringing in Trubisky really worth it? Couldn't Rudolph have had the same (if not better) production?

It's hard to put my finger on the exact problem with the Steelers the past few years. Defense is pretty lousy, but the offense just can never get going. It's a really "boring" offense, that has spanned multiple OCs.

I keep arriving at one common denominator...

Yea I kind of think they need a complete reboot. Canada is in over his head as OC and Austin as the DC isn't much better and yesterdays defensive performance was really, really bad.
Watt should have taken the rest of the year off, he's playing with multiple injuries and isn't very effective.
Absolutely agree about MItch T.
They also need to jettison the punter. He's wildly inconsistent, mostly he just seems bad.

You're right about all of this. If we could summarize all of these problems, it probably comes down to whoever is making the personnel decisions. Is that Mike T? Or a combination of guys?

For instance, you reference the punter Pressley Harvin. Why was a change even made there? Jordan Berry seemed quite capable of handling the punting duties. He was averaging 45 yards per punt when he lost his job ... to someone who's now averaging less than 45 yards a punt.

I agree with Watt ... the season is lost at this point. Just get him out and let him heal.

If I were the Steelers, I'd take a lineman (both offensive and defensive) with every pick I had in the draft.

Agree with almost all of the above. That being said though, if Pgh can get a pick around the top 10 (currently 13 I believe) and with the Bears pick, they will have 3 of the top 45 ish picks. They can get a lot better real quick if those picks pan out. They need OL/DL/CB help immediately.

As bad as the run defense was yesterday I would take a DL in the 1st round if a good one is there for them. Maybe they could also trade back and get another 2 from someone and get the huge NG from Baylor.

This is so true and I forgot to mention this in my earlier post. NFL teams can turn things around really quickly. Look at the Bengals as a prime example. The Bengals went 2-14, then 4-11-1 in the two years prior to making it to the Super Bowl.

They'll also need a LB as they're not going to re-sign the Devin Bush project. I doubt they re-sign Edmunds as well. That's a lot of holes to fill on the highest paid defense in the league.

True but losing Bush may be a net positive. ha

I would go with one of the OT in round 1 (Johnson OSU or Skoronski NW ?) or if they aren't there I would take Bresee if he is there. Round 2 the big NG from Baylor Ika or if they get Bresee take an OT. Then the best CB left with the 2nd 2nd rounder

Yet they will still win enough to find themselves in the middle of the draft...I just wish they would lose out to get the best picks possible.
I think yesterday was the turning point. If they won, they could still go after it and potentially make the playoffs. They would have been 6-7 with 4 winnable games and could have finished 9-8 or 10-7. But now that they lost, at home, they have no reason to win the last 4.

Their needs are many. In no particular order: DT or 2, MLB, CB, OT, SS…

Sad to say I was happy to hear they lost yesterday after two worthless wins.

All this talk about turning things around is never going to happen with the Steelers as they stand now. The foundation is rotten. I will be an old man the next time they've done anything to speak of.
