its the annual rite of spring on GP....whiners who can't stop boo-hooing about the lottery scholarships.

Newsflash: we didn't start sucking b/c other states got lottery scholarships or other scholarships. we started sucking right about the time ron polk returned.

LSU started sucking under Smoke Laval after Skip Bertman stepped down. All the while, Smoke had the TOPS scholarship. Now, they are no longer sucking b/c Paul Maneiri is their coach.

Ole Miss didn't start winning b/c of lucky day scholarships. They started winning when Mike Bianco arrived.

Vandy didn't start winning b/c they all of the sudden have a lot of money in their endowment. They started winning when tim corbin got there.

there is a clear pattern here. its far more about coaches than it is these lottery scholarships. I really wish we didn't have so many losers in our fanbase, people destined to find some reason that is out of our hands or "unfair" that is the reason we will never be able to win so we should just accept the status quo.

Amen 8.

Many of our fans have been brainwashed by the Legend. The fact of the matter is while these schools were finding ways to beat the NCAA to the punch, we were whining instead of finding our own way to beat them to the punch.

Also, a lot of our fans have this weird hyper-religious worried about what other people think if we fire a coach syndrome. For example, well Ron has done a lot for us, and we owe it to him to see if he can turn it around. They're all worried about what people would say if we fire someone, when the reality is no one would give a ****. So, we have to have these staged firings where we claim that the coach "goes out on his own terms with a buyout clause." It's humorous, but frustrating. And does any other school in the country have fans that get pissed off at their own fans for heckling? I think I've seen more State fans get into fights with other State fans than anywhere else in the country. And then there's this weird fear that other schools might think we have "bad fans" for yelling stuff at the other team. Like we should care if Kentucky thinks our fans suck. Do LSU fans get upset when people talk bad about them? No. They embrace it with every fiber of their being. And let's be honest, who didn't want to moon some Alabama fans after we beat them last year in football? I know I sure did, but I refrained somehow. Probably the fear that some of their male fans would mistake it as a mating ritual.

But yes, our fans need to ditch the "that's baseball attitude" and maybe expect a lot more out of our players in general, rather than attack the fans that actually want to be good and have some pride in something that says Mississippi State on it.

i totally agree. take MS Southern for example and BowerGate. they fired their best coach to date for not producing in that crappy conference of theirs. they wanted to get rid of apathy and bring in someone with some fire. i believe they have done so (at least he is fired up but his ability will be seen on the field of course). it was on ESPN and most of the regional news papers, channels, and websites when it happened. we discussed it here and many posted "who does southern think they are firing such a coach." now that it is over with no one could give a ****. the talking heads and reporters will discuss it again during the upcoming season but if fedora wins no one will care. as a matter of fact, i haven't heard anything about bower in a long while. they have forgotten for the most part already.

i am not saying we should be more like southern but i can say that seeing them firing their "legendary" coach gave me some hope that we could follow suit if the situation presented itself. </p>
