Idk, I think this is better OOC opponent then the Kent State, Villanova type teams.
Yeah but they are generally just an extra home game for revenue purposes.

This match up is pedestrian at best. Can’t believe another ACC school was not open to playing PSU.

Clearly this is Kraft’s first step in moving PSU to the acc.

My first trip to Beaver Stadium....1966....Syracuse vs PSU. Syracuse backfield, if I recall correctly, was Floyd Little, Larry Csonka and Tom Coughlin.
Little won the game on a punt return.

I don’t see the upside in ever scheduling Syracuse. PSU needs to start upgrading the OOC schedule. Auburn was great and VT was good (before they backed out) but there’s no upside in scheduling Syracuse IMO. It’s just not an interesting game regionally, much less nationally.

And if PSU decides they are going the “likely win” route then schedule BC as Boston is far better then Syracuse for a road trip. ;)

I go back to when Syracuse was the biggest rival. Any day Penn State can put a beating on Syracuse is a good day.
Old rival or not, it would be better to put a beating on a program that still has a pulse, not one that has had losing seasons in 7 of the past 8 years in the lightweight ACC.

Except this type of game usually isn’t put in instead of Kent St and Villanova. It’s put in WITH Kent St and Villanova.

The OOC schedule in 2027 is now Syracuse, Delaware, and Temple.

If they were scheduling Auburn types and Syracuse rather than Kent St then I’d agree with you.

The Carrier Dome is an awful facility.

My wife and I vowed to never go back there after the 2008 PSU game. It was a humid day, and it was gross in there. At least it was an A$$. BEATING. o_O .

Penn State OOC schedules-

2022- Ohio, at Auburn, Central Michigan
2023- West Virginia, Delaware, UMass
2024- at WVU, Bowling Green, Kent St
2025- Nevada, Villanova, ?
2026- Marshall, at Temple, San Jose St
2027- Syracuse, Delaware, Temple
2028- at Syracuse, ?, ?

That makes Penn State’s “big” OOC games-

2021/22- Auburn
2023/24- West Virginia
2025- Nevada (?)
2026- Temple
2027/28- Syracuse

Meanwhile, Ohio State’s scheduling-

2022/23- Notre Dame
2024/25- Washington
2025/26- Texas (Yes, Washington and Texas in 2025).
2027/28- Alabama
2030/31- Georgia
2032/33- Oregon

Michigan is scheduling-

2022- Colorado St
2023- East Carolina
2024- Texas
2025/26- Oklahoma
2027- Texas
2028- Washington
2033/34- Notre Dame

One could hope.

On the other hand, by the time these games are to be played, College Football may no longer exist as we know it (thanks Emmert and thanks NIL).

Delaware, Temple, and Villanova should not be on our schedule unless it’s for basketball. I assume its for the Philadelphia press to help with recruiting but anymore what benefit does that bring? I d much rather play a MAC team for an easy win or someone like an App State, Coastal Carolina, South Florida, Nevada, San Diego State, Northern Illinois, or one of another handful of programs with some cross county interest. Better yet, why don’t we rotate Army, Navy, and the Air Force Academy?

Syracuse just got out of their naming rights deal with Carrier. Doesn't seem like it was a great deal for either side.

On the bright side, I read Syracuse spent several million dollars to upgrade their dome to be ready for the 2022 season. Gone is the dome held up by air pressure which required them to keep the doors closed. The new dome is suspended by an outside structure. There's even a video board hanging over the field. And they even installed air conditioning!!! The name of the place will be changing too.

OTOH, 2028 is a long way off. Any number of factors could cause the schedule to change by then.

Should be playing Pitt more often than not.
And West Virginia too. Pitt, Syracuse, West Virginia instead of Temple Delaware, and Villanova makes more sense in that it gives us the Eastern traditional games we miss in the Big10 and still serves as a recruiting and local press and alumni draw for the fans.

Yeah, if you’re going to schedule like this then at least go the Army, Navy, Air Force route rather than Delaware, Villanova, Temple, etc.

If PSU is going to give Temple a home and home then switch that to Air Force and at least get a good road trip out of it. ;)

So this is the best we could muster up for our marque home/home OOC game for those years? Meh. This matchup does nothing to increase my interest level. No different than a MAC team.

Seems like an odd choice. Unlikely to be on national TV and the away game is not taking place in a recruiting hotbed

FSU or Miami would have been great ACC choices. Heck Georgia Tech would have been a better choice IMO

Of course it takes 2 to tango

Eh, who knows by 2027. Could be a national game depending on what else is being played that day.
