I think Tony Negron could be a sleeper. I dont he's a dud at all.
I like Negron, kid is so raw, but he scraps. I am interested to see how he continues to develop. Talk about coaching up a kid, take a kid with not a ton of experience, but (what appears) great work ethic and desire- throw him in the cauldron of (arguably) the best wrestling room in the country and see what happens... He just needs experience...

that said, I hope that Byers was wrong, and Berge is back at 157... Berge/Edsel just seems stronger(certainly more experienced) than Negron/Berge-

but, I haven't coached wrestling in almost 25 years- I'll trust the Cael and company to make the right call... :)

a fun season continues...

Hard to believe Berge at 165 - think the biggest hole is 157 and Edsel at 165 could make a little noise whereas 157 is a dud this year…
Exactly. Berge could be in the thick of things at 157 this year. 165 is loaded. Let’s see how things play out. We have a great coaching staff.

I’m hoping for someone other than Negron at 157 for the simple reason that we don’t have to listen to his father‘s incessant coaching from the stands throughout the entire dual. Both annoying and embarrassing Last night.

Thinking Cael might be thinking the same Since he was sitting right behind the PSU coaches corner.

I think most of us anticipated Berge coming back at 157. and thoughtbhe'd do well there. We dont know how he will do at 165. Is he better than Edsell? Probably. Is 165 tougher? Definitely. Does Brady know it is tougher? Yes he does and came back ton fulfill his dreams. He must feel confident. Maybe he goes down to 157, maybe not. My gut says he has probably put on weight since he wasn't planning on competing again. Either way he is a talent who improves our team at 165 or 157. I agree, Cael knows what he is doing and so does Brady. We are just a bunch of invested PS fans who wants the team to be successful and hopefully win a national championship. It will be an interesting last couple of months. The team looks good.

I'm not familiar with the weight certification procedures these days but could it be that, having not been competing, Berge is not able to be certified at 157?

Or maybe he's grown and can't or doesn't want to make 157 because he knows he won't be at his best. I would strongly suspect he made his intention and desire clear to Cael. Assuming he beats out Edsall, maybe Edsall decides to descend to 157.

Edsell cutting to 157 would be like Ira Lubert cutting down to 190, oh wait. Lubert figured he'd have the strength of 260 and the quickness of 190, instead he had the quickness of 260 and the strength of 190. He had some battles in the room with Dave Joyner. The first time I saw Lubert after he cut to 190 the only way I recognized him was the hair on his back. Point being, I think it would be a hard cut for Edsell.

“the only way I recognized him was the hair on his back.” I have no idea what that means but it’s hilarious! Point taken!

I have no idea what Berge's walking around weight is these days, but as I recall he wasn't the same wrestler sucked down to 149. If he now fits best at 165, I say give it a go. Maybe Edsell is able to defend the spot?

Nationals points aside, I would like to see how Tony continues to develop.

Edsell is a grinder which is fine. Negron is aggressive and not afraid to shoot. Cael’s preferred style.

Please don't read anything into that, lol, Ira was a hairy guy. Wade Schalles cut down from 158 to 150 for nationals, maybe 1972, seeing as Lee Kemp and Stan the man Dezack were at 158. Schalles actually beat Kemp during the year but lost to Desack. (sp)
My wife ran into Wade's mother in the restroom at nationals and she told my wife never again, the cut for Wade was miserable. That's back in the days of rubber suits and sweat boxes. Wade won nationals at 150 but he looked like a skeleton.

Lee Kemp did not lose an NCAA match to Wade Schalles.

Funny story. I was a big Wade Schalles fan like many. Who wasn’t. A lady in our Bible study is from Chardon Ohio and was a 13 time AA in Track and Field at Iowa State. She’s on the wall of fame at ISU and met Cael a few times; she says he’s quiet.
She mentioned Lee Kemp to me one evening and I didn’t know who he was 🤦. And I’m the wrestling fan. Right

Wife was sitting next to me while listening to the dual and said “who the heck is that guy constantly yelling“
she also said that PSU play by play guy is the Harry Kalas of wrestling announcers. she’s a keeper.

My memory is good it just doesn't last as long. Yeah it couldn't have been Kemp, it was someone else good, because it was 1972.

My two cents on Berge is the less weight someone with concussion issues cuts, the better. Keep him hydrated and healthy. Then see if he makes the lineup. Nothing is given.
Thanks. Makes a lot of sense. Brady and Cael can figure this out where he will go. He is a great addition and a talent. Nice to see him back and going for it. BTW, i thought your son wrestled really well last night . (of course he does that most nights) He was really aggressive on his feet and getting TDs at will. Such a talent!! So fun to watch!!

Aaron wrestled in Maryland a long time. Youth State tournaments through HS. That crowd was 75% blue and white. Sold out! Had people standing cuz all the seats were sold out. He was a little excited 😊
