Monte is going to end up at The Citadel more than likely. I get the recruits tweeting this, and they can follow him to Charleston if they really just want to play for him.

Hopefully Ray will not be swayed by a few recruits. Lee failed at Clemson and was an integral part of failed experiment under Kingston. Need to move in a completely different direction even if we lose some recruits

Perhaps the reason Ray moved so quickly on Kingston is that he had already tabbed Lee.

I won’t guarantee that Monte Lee won’t be our next coach. However, there is no way he’s one of the first 3 options. If we get turned down a few times and the search falls apart, then we may very well end up with Monte Lee. I hope Tanner has learned from his past coaching hires, which have fallen apart. I think one good thing we have this time around are some a few coaches who aren’t still coaching their team are at the top of the list, and at least one wants to leave their current job (Louisville). We should get one of our top choices this time around.

If that were the case, why name him interim coach? I hope you're wrong.

I don't think Lee will be the next head coach, but it's at least plausible. The optics alone, hiring a coach who failed at your in-state rival, would be terrible.

But Ray and Monte have a history. He's here. It would be an easy move.

Landon Powell and Ray have history and he is a winning coach, unlike Monte.

I like what the P&C said about Landon. If he didn’t go to USC, would anyone care (be impressed) about all those D2 wins?

Landon could certainly be a fallback option. But it’s becoming more and more clear he’s not one of our top pursuits and probably shouldn’t be. That’s a big leap, and way too risky considering how big this hire is.

Wouldn’t be shocked to see him on the staff if he wants to come to SC…but it won’t be as HC.

Monti won at Clemson. The reason he was fired is he could never get to a super regional.
Powell has won playoffs and championships.
He is a good coach, motivator and develops his players and has Gamecock history (skin in the game).
He deserves consideration.

No, you don't hire at D2 coach no D1 experience. He may eventually be a good D1 coach if he wants to go that route, but he needs to coach at a mid major first. If Powell was not an alum, nobody would know his name. Too many proven D1 coaches out there.

Those recruits are allowed to have their opinions but they should in no way influence the decision.
Does anyone remember that one time that a bunch of former players advocated for a head coach and we ended up with a special teams coordinator / motivational speaker? Oh wait, that’s now.

Don't think it's that big of a deal, really. Not like it would be in football.

Do you feel that way about Beamer?

Jacque, my thought is that hiring a rookie to be Head Coach in the toughest football conference in the nation, getting on-the-job training in that league, is unwise. But, that's not surprising since we are South Carolina, after all.

I get that some fans think hiring Beamer is OK because we 'suck' anyway. Awesome.

What I care about is Kingston is gone. As interim, Monte has my full support. If he's coaching here next year, he will still have my support. If he continues here and has as bad a second year as Kingston did, I will be vocal about the need to remove him... just like I was during Kingston's run. Perhaps by then a new AD will be in place and make the next baseball hire. Whatever though. I'm just glad Kingston is gone.

He did take CofC to a Super Regional. He has proven himself as a winner. I like him over some of the other's rumored as candidates. He would not have been at Clemson had we not held on to Holbrook an extra year or so.

I've watched a few Clemson games this year and they've got some solid players. Does anyone have any idea how many of their current starters were recruited by Monte Lee? I know Erik Bakich brought some of them from Michigan when he took the job.

Shane Beamer was part of the reason we won all those games in 2010-2013. Those were his recruits. We all saw the difference in personnel once he left.
