Surprised they didn't review the Blanton pick for targeting

No, I am NOT saying there was targeting and I am anti-targeting calls anyway...think it should almost never be called. However, based on how quick the refs are to throw flags for potential targeting, I'm quite surprised they didn't throw a flag for Debo hit on the Jacksonville State QB to even review for targeting. Watching the replay, it sure looks like the kind of borderline hit they would normally review. It LOOKS like his helmet is lowered a bit, maybe not quite leading with the crown, and hits the QB in the bottom of the facemask.

Again, not saying there was targeting, as I don't even think it should be a penalty. Just surprised b/c they throw the flag for basically any big hit these days.

I'll admit, I was a little nervous about that. It wasn't targeting, but that hasn't stopped them from flagging it before.

To reiterate, I don't believe in targeting in 95% of cases, But that is normally the kind of hit they would review.

Who wasn't set?
I'm guessing (don't remember) the 2nd receiver down from the top of the screen? It looks like he was only set for a fraction of a second before the ball was snapped. šŸ™

Speaking of targeting DQ's targeting in TAM I think is the first time I have ever seen it called when you hit a player lower in the legs. I get what the rule is and for protecting the defender as well. But that was a bit over kill to say the least.

I thought the same as Debo creamed the JSU QB, who likely shouldnā€™t have even been in the game, as he had left injured twice before. Bad look for Rich Rod. Had Debo not hit the QB, and Blanton not read the wheel route, the JSU RB was would have been wide open for the go ahead TD. Big play there by our starting LBā€™s!

Yep. .25 seconds could have costed him the job...maybe...not really?

Yes, that was crap. What they called there could be called on 25% of all plays.
