Sweep to the wide side of the field....

Why do we always run sweeps to the short side of the field? Running wide softens the defense and allows a big back to pick a lane and get moving forward. Also, don't throw over the middle when the defense is trying to stuff the run. You have both safeties and several linebackers crammed in there. Hit the outs and fades--maybe a screen.

We really do some dumb, un-fundamental stuff out there.

I noticed during the game when we kept running to the short side. We did that ALOT last year. And the short side always seems to be to the left side of the field. Just seems to be the side Dixon seems to go. Bounce it outside - to the left.

When was the last time he ran to the right side? Ever?

If the defense overextends to the far side of the field you can sometimes get a real numerical advantage by running to the short side of the field. It can be a very good call and it can work for big yards consistently. IF the defense is overextended to the far side. That said, we definitely ran ran to the short side of the field a few times we shouldn't have. Especially on the 2 plays we were backed up to our goal line. Lee had plenty of room to run (and slide) on the 3rd down play that went to other side.</p>

Right off the top of my head, opening game last year against LSU. Opening drive 4th down in the "Wild Dawg" formation, he tried to bounce it to the right only to be stuffed for a 4 yard loss. If I remember correctly, the called hole opened about the time he started running sideways.
