I posted this on the hair helmet's message board and got a nasty email from the helmet asking for my personal phone number so he could find out who I was and what staff member I talked with. The helmet isn't very well liked by the basketball staff.

Anyway Ben leaving is simple he wants to be a PG and thinks he can have a future in the NBA as a PG.Ben nor his folks think the MSU staff can get him to that level and believe Ben's skills were not used right while in Starkville.Ben was told if Jmoney leaves a Fr was signed to be the PG(Boast)he nor his dad liked that so they went school shopping once Memphis knocked us out.Ben was very close to leaving last year for the very same reasons, didn't help matters either that Ben's mom hated living in Starkville.

I thought Ben had a problem with running the point and wanted to play at the 2? I'm not saying you're lying, it's just weird. Maybe I'm not remembering that right.

I really have no idea about that just went by what the staff member said.I don't expect Phil Turner to be back either from what the staff member was saying.

1) Ben could play point guard. He's a step slower than your average PG.

2) Ben could play in the NBA. In the League, there are PG's taller than Jamont who have ball-handling skills who'd eat him for lunch.

Sounds like a disgruntled father who thinks his son is better than he really is, sorta like what you see at your average Little League baseball field. If Ben was lucky, he might be a backup Point Guard on Dontae Jone's South Korean team.

No rumor on Phil, dont know where he is going..but he wont be sticking around. Have seen the writing on the wall for Philly since he started sitting post-CR injury, and Ravern started getting his minutes.

As far as ben, I think its partially true... the guy is a gym hound and loves to be on the court anytime and everytime. he doesnt have that luxury with the hump and any privacy at the sanderson.

But, underlying i think it has to do a lot with the style we play, and will continue to play while Jamont is still around. Ben has never been a huge part of the offense, and likely never will be. partly his fault, due to severely streaky 3pt shooting, and also the fact anytime he had the ball on a fast break, or just driving in traffic.. he ALWAYS would pass the ball, I feel like he should of shot more often.

Regardless if Ben, his dad, his mother are psycho - this has become an epidemic of sorts with a Stansbury program. These transfers will never let us take the next step because we never have any continuity in the program. We will have to "find" ourself at the beginning of the season next year thus leading us to scurry to get a NCAA bid like we did this year - if we are as good next year as we are this year which I highly doubt.

You won't play a minute in the NBA.

Signed, Common Sense

The problem here is that one brother plays for UNC and gets to the Final Four while the other plays for MSU and loses in the second round. It has to be hard when one is arguably the best player in college basketball while the other is arguably the 3rd best on his team. Facilities also aren't a good basis for comparison. This smells like Hansdaddy getting involved. How do we find the players with crazy fathers?

Ben is totally against playing point guard. One of the main reasons he came back this year was because he could play shooting guard instead of playing point, but I am sure you knew that. Ben is transferring to Missouri to be closer to home. You didn't speak with a staff member because none of them would have told you that.

Controlling parents, student-athletes who can't live up to their "potential". I would like for him to stay at MState but he is NOT that good.

Last night someone who talked to someone close to the program said pretty much the same thing (He wanted a guaranteed spot). Are you Ben? What makes your story more credible? Just wondering.

There's a reason Stans won't play Ben at the point. And that's because he can't play the point in the SEC. I hope he enjoys his last two years in the MAC.

why didn't he even mention that as a reason to transfer?

Just a little educated speculation here.

1) Ben wants to play big time ball and be the next Steve Nash since being a point guard is about the only spot he could conceivably play in the NBA
2) Ben's dad and brother and family made basketball their family obsession many many years ago
3) Ben cannot play defense (like Nash)
4) There is a very strong chance that both Ben and Tyler will never accomplish anything in the NBA
5) Ben's dad is indeed mental
6) Ben has issues because of his dad
7) Ben is blaming his lack of "greatness" on MSU. He will wake up and see his own limitations one day and accept it has nothing to do with MSU's practice facility, not playing point guard, etc, etc

I honestly feel sad for both Ben and Tyler to put this much into something and it amount to very little for both of them. Tyler will most likely get a chance to play in the NBA and make a good salary for 2-3 years but he will be out of the NBA before we realize he is in. Ben has no chance but is a good college player and should leave it at that.

Yea, transfer closer to home would have been much more believable than no IPF.

Sun Belt point guard of the year and then sit at the same table together on NBA draft night with their daddys to see where they go in the lottery.

For most kids? That's 3 guards in two years that are starters on a SEC West title winning team. Most kids would love that chance yet it's not enough for our guys who for some reason think they are NBA level players when they're just not.

Unreal this seems to only happen at MSU

This pretty much sums up my feelings of the situation. We can all say "he's not that good." bla bla bla, but in reality he was good enough to play over 30 mins a game last year. Ben is an experienced Jr. that knows how to play in the SEC, which is a definite plus. I mean I said the same thing when the Delks left last year about well they aren't that good, because we had Ben and Randy back plus Turner and Ravern. Ravern showed that he will be a good player in the future but was not ready to play significant minutes in the SEC last year. Same goes for Turner. I think it definitely kept us from being a higher seed and giving us a better chance to make a run in the Tourney. Same goes for next year. We are losing a player that we know what we will get day in and day out for a player that who the hell knows what he will bring to the table. I just don't see us making a run in the Tourney, until we have continuity in the program.

So many parents nowadays do the same thing, especially when they have one child that is better than another child. In the case of Ben and Tyler there is a huge discrepency in their talent levels. That's ok, some are gifted more than others. The problem exists when a parent puts so much emphasis on basketball that is becomes their life and things don't work out just like they had planned. It's obvious that Ben isn't going to play in the NBA, and Coach K, Dean Smith, John Wooden, Bobby Knight, etc couldn't get him to that point. It's easier to blame external areas rather than accepting that there is a ceiling on your abilities.

was there for all to see as soon as we signed Ben. When your momma comes to college with you, that's a sign that all is not right.

...didn't help matters either that Ben's mom hated living in Starkville.
Why the hell does she have to live in Starkville? I love my mother and all, but I'm glad as hell she didn't try to move to Starkville with me.

further from home than Columbia, and thats if you get lucky with the St. Louis traffic. And as far as his mom hating Starkville, hasn't she lived in Poplar Bluff, MO for the last 10+ years? That place is the armpit of Southeast Missouri.

then that is something that he decided on very recently, considering he told me he wanted no part of the point midway through the SEC season. That leads me to think that his brain has been filled with ******** over the last few weeks. Whether that's coming from his dad, his mom, or whoever, Psycho B is making an ill-advised decision.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Slater Theory, which is probably not true, but still a lot of fun to think about. OH yeah.

We will miss Hansbrough's talents, but if this recent "me" attitude is any indication of where this guy's game is going, then we'll benefit from a team chemistry standpoint with his departure. I know we won't be as experienced, but I think we'll have as cohesive of a unit next year as we've had since Timmy left.

"And everybody knows how I feel about Timmy Bowers..."

Lastly, I'm not trying to sugarcoat the defections, because they obviously are a growing concern within the program, but State is still the team to beat in the West. I still think we'll make it five of the last seven come next March. The division will be weak again, and we've got enough returning/incoming talent (granted it's young) that wants to play for Stans.

I believe you. The only reason the Swan wants your name and number is so that he can tell whoever you talked to to not tell you any more info.

It would be hard for me to swallow my pride and go play for a program that completely ignorred me in the recruiting process. Then, I hone my game a little and said program falls on hard times. And now they want me back? **** on them would be my attitude. But, I know I have less BB ability and probably have bigger nuts than Hans.

Was it a surprise or had there been discussions over the course of the year? I think Hans came close to getting out last year. I wonder if he was

promised something a year ago to appease him? I guess I am trying to determine if Stans himself believes it to be an issue with him and his staff

or just the way the cookie crumbles...

man stick to baseball please. Have you taked to Phil personally by any chance? I took a year off during his senior season and attended every THS game and saw every time Grenada played in Tupelo's gym. It is my understanding that State didn't seriously get on Phil until Robert Kirby "mysteriously" attended that year's 2-5a(not sure on the region) tourney held at Tupelo's gym.

Again, no bull I've read from kv's blog or anywhere else. This is my own vision/memories.

Also, at noon today, when I talked with him, he sure didn't seem or say anything about transferring. Even though the conversation was dominated by Ben's transferring...

off topic- The "Thrill" also confirmed the on foinf(since Winsome) rumor that Stans doesn't alow his players to wear long hair. That's why Ben's transferring!!
