Tanner should do his new role but mainly should be back at coaching the baseball team.

More than likely it will be someone with a business background.Thats the direction college athletics has gone.

Coach Tanner probably does not want to deal with an NCAA investigation, if one comes. This has had to be in the works for some time with the departure of several head coaches recently. It looked like he was trying to get the Athletic Department house in order before leaving the AD position.

Why would Coach Beamer be on borrowed time? You think a new AD is going to come in a just start firing?

I would like to see someone who has a football background. Someone who really, really knows the game and what it takes, for a school like ours to succeed in it. A good number 2 man should be able to address the business side. This is what we had when Jim Carlen was AD and Head Football Coach. Dr. John Moore handled the business end.

I can’t recall the last program that hired a football guy as their AD.Its a different world today with ever increasing pressure to generate revenue in the day of players being paid.

Im not even sold on that. Let the AD be a business guy, a freaking salesman for all i care. But understand your limitations.

If picking a coach is not your strong suit, DELEGATE.

Was Fulmer the UT AD? And it wasn't exactly awesome for their FB progrum.

Someone in the Athletic Department needs to know the money sport, to be able, to at least tell the top guy that would be a dumb move. If we have anyone like that there now, they have been as vocal as Charlie Chaplin in his heyday.

This is good news. His replacement will hopefully be better at picking football coaches and when to give them extensions.
All AD are going to have bad hires. See Buffet Brad and Susan Waviloss for McGee. See Horn for Hyman.

Those of y'all who have been around awhile have seen this before. They're easing his @$$ out the same way they tried to ease Dietzel's @$$ out. It's exactly the same thing, only Dietzel was either too proud or too stupid to hang around a few more years and collect a nice check for doing little more than schmoozing - nothing, really. This is deja vu to those who remember.

The timing certainly leads to some questions.

Why the announcement on the eve of a ESPN Game Day broadcast at home ?

Need a GM for the football team as well. This is not a joke. I’m being serious.
Yes. It was considered major news at Alabama when their General Manager for football didn't leave for another opportunity a couple of weeks ago. This is pro football now, like it or not.

Getting paid this much money for a part time job is ridiculous. They want my tax dollars to help pay off student loans but pay a part-time employee $800,000.00 a year… Good Ole Boy System still at work!

You are correct. After John Currie offered Schiano the football job, the fan base revolted. Currie was fired and Fulmer was brought and ended up hiring Pruitt. Not a good decision for the legendary coach. However, Pruitt’s firing and a new AD have led to a more prosperous future.

Sunshine pumper twist - get some positive press and exposure and coverage? Not every day SEC AD comes open. This will be our 4th AD hire since being in the SEC, yes? Dixon (incumbent at time of transition), McGee, Hyman, Tanner?

Vince Dooley did alright for his football program. He was coach and AD.
He helped USC get into the SEC when he knew it would help the FB pgm. Without the SEC, no Holtz and no Spurrier. Our team has been trying for decades to be important. It's our time now. With Ray gone, it should help the attitude of just about everyone.
